Morning all,

I want to install a wireless printer so I can print wirelessly off a laptop.

What's the easiest way to go about doing this?

Do I get a normal printer and attach a wireless device to it with a repeater or something or do I get a printer with built in bluetooth? [Haven't seen any printers with built in wireless.] Etc.

TIA! :D

I have a HP 1022nw with built in wireless. I have a wireless router in the house, which assigns a static IP to the printer based on the Mac address. Just add the printer as a normal TCP/IP printer on your notebook, using the IP address, and bobs your uncle.

This specific printer can also take a fixed IP, ie not assigned by the Wireless router, so you would be able to print directly to it

Hey postman,

Makro had a special on about a month ago for HP Colour LaserJet 1600's. We bought one and have been really happy. R2000.

At the time, they said that you can get a wireless card built in to the printer for an extra R1000. We didn't get this. Our printer is connected to the home desktop PC and I print wirelessly through the network (just shared the printer over the network).

You may want to see if they are still offering this special.

Cheers,
David

Thanks for the help guys.

Not looking for a laser printer. Will have to be a deskjet or all-in-one.

I'm using Rectron and looking at their pricelist:

LJ-1022N R 1,799 Q5913A HP® LaserJet 1022, A4, + Network

That your one, LandyMan?

I wonder if "network" means that it has wireless?

Are there other ways of printing wirelessly without having built-in wireless in the printer?

As Davidpey posted: connect the printer to a PC, and share the printer. (or get a JetDirect box) Wired/Wireless printing is then available. This often ends up being a cheaper option.

The 1022N is only wired (it has a network port) ... the 1022NW is the one with built-in wireless.

Keep in mind it is a laserjet

I've got three wireless access points through out the house - 2 capable of attaching almost any USB printer the third will take printers and hdds.

Just want the cheapest way to make a printer wireless. ;)

Would that be getting a "JetBox"?
