Greetings all

I use a Netgear modem to wirelessly access my 384kbps Axxess uncapped/shaped account. Distance from laptop to router is around 8m through a wall or 2.
On speedtest.net (JHB servers) using my Acer Extensa 5220 laptop, I get the following figures:
Ping = 75ms D/l = 0.26Mb/s Ul= 0.10Mb/s

Using the wifes HP 530 machine at exactly the same location, I get
Ping = 57ms D/l is 0.30Mb/s Ul= 0.11Mb/s

I have several questions.
Why would there be a difference?
Is it normal for the Netgear to get rather warm?
Would using Telkom ISP (SAIX) over IS improve my DSL performance?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Many thanks
Don

Hi Don

About you first question: There is quite a difference in the results each time you do a test on speedtest.net - even from the exact same computer and location and directly after each other. For example, here are 2 speedtest.net results I just ran now right after each other:
1)
2)

I guess for an accurate result an average should be taken.
