I've got an old Acer TravelMate 2420 which I bought around four years ago, which is running Windows XP SP3. When I initially got it, I used to keep getting the error:
*** Hardware Malfunction
Call your hardware vendor for support
NMI: Parity Check / Memory Parity Error
*** The system has halted
However, for some reason once I replaced my router at the time with a wireless router and used WLAN as opposed to a traditional LAN connection, I stopped getting the error. Yesterday I replaced my router with a new Siemen's one because it was beginning to drop the connection quite a lot. Now, although the connection's fine, I've started getting this error on the laptop again! Is it just coincidence or is it possibly a hardware problem? I've already used Scandisk and done a defrag and everything seemed to be alright. Generally it's happened an hour or so into being logged in, but once or twice I had to restart a few times until I could progress to the stage where I could login.
