Wireless vs cabled connection

Absolutely Yes! Keep the wireless spectrum and capacity for that very last "inch" of connectivity to a mobile/portable device and do not waste spectrum and capacity on portions that can be better handled with a cabled connection.

Agreed 1000%

So it's basically 802.11G, or just marginally better because it's not like DLINK are known for great wireless.

No wonder you are struggling.

See this is exactly my point. Wireless isn't wireless isn't wireless.

And the bridge is also over Wifi or is that wired? Even so the same overall limitation applies.

The bridge is connected to the camera via cable but connects to wifi.

Which router would you recommend though?

So the two Access Points are wirelessly connected?

There's your problem.

Wire the two up to each other and half your problem goes away.

Remember that Router is 10 years old (don't quote me) and one of the first implementations of 802.11N.

It's more like 802.11G X2 than a new standard really and lacks a lot of the modern features.

Personally I'm a TP-Link fan these days. But like I said wire the two AP's together and half your problem is solved.

Yes, this is what the OP wanted to know.
Wired over wireless is better.
