I have a couple of issues. It will be best if I start from the beggining.

I got a new wireless router today, my usb wireless card stopped working, so I changed usb slot, ok it connected for 20 seconds to the net and I could load 1 webpage, disconnected again, changed usb slots again, same thing, finally I moved it to the usb slot at the front of my computer(1 metre further away from my router so I thought the signal would be weaker), it connected to the net for 10 minutes, disconnected again..... took it out and plugged it in again into the same usb slot, works fine now for an hour until I tried crysis.
Why would changing usb slots help? And why would it work better on the same usb slot after a while? Note that I have not changed any settings or installed any drivers etc.

Problems are not over though, when I try and connect to Crysis(game) multiplayer online now, my internet always instantly disconnects. I had no problems on my old router yesterday with Crysis multiplayer. I am positive that my internet works fine now and that as soon as I load Crysis multiplayer it instantly disconnects. All my other internet apps work, even bit torrent gets a high speed. So why Crysis online making it disconnect?

I do have an internal pci wifi adaptor but I plugged it in and my computer cannot detect it(light dosnt come on, not detected in device manager. So I am stuck with this usb one.

So USB issues?
Crysis online issue?
PCI card not being detected?

My system I bought 3 weeks ago from chillblast.com
http://www.chillblast.com/product.php?productid=18434&cat=0&page=1

Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Processor (3.0GHz)
Asus V3-P5945GC Motherboard
nVIDIA GeForce 8600GT 512MB Graphics Card
Asus Mini ATX Case with built in PSU
2GB PC2-6400 DDR2 Memory
20x DVD-RW/CD-RW Optical Drive (Black)
250GB SATA 7200rpm Hard Disk
Onboard High-Definition Audio
Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit OEM (I UPGRADED FROM 32 BIT)

wireless cards are Sweex, not sure about my routers because my brother bought them.

System works fine except for this net issue.

Anyone has any ideas about any of my issues I would appreciate it.

To be honest, I have never had much luck with USB wireless devices. I have a Canyon one... and it does the same thing. Just drops the connection every few minutes.

Does someone else have another one you can try?

yeah - in general - stay away from usb wireless..

-start/running voltage for usb not always stable
-usb cable length a problem
-usb devices overheating.

PCI FTW :)

I had a client who's external wireless adapters overheat,so they had to unplug them for 30mins till they're nice and cool and browse the web again for an hour :P

I got my dad a USB WiFi dongle coz his laptop was too old to have one built in and he has not had a days problem with it. His is an Airlive one though.

Do your other USB devices work ok on your USB slots?

Thanks for the responses.

All other USB devices work, and my USB wifi seems to work ok now but sometimes it does disconnect, at least it is usable now I guess.

I am still trying to get a PCI card to work but my computer cannot detect it.

I also emailed chillblast and they replied with this:

I am extremely sorry for the mix-up - this was actually an error on our website which has now been rectified. We have had to resort to using USB wireless adapters in Windows Vista systems due to a major incompatibility of PCI adapters in this operating system. Therefore we would be unable to supply a PCI wireless card which will work in the Windows Vista operating system. I apologise for the inconvenience.

So this may be why I am having trouble getting my computer detecting my PCI card.

But even if Vista could not detect it, would the green light on the PCI card not still turn on when I turn on the computer hardware?

If anyone knows about getting PCI wifi to work in vista I would be happy.

Netgear Cards work fine, just download the vista drivers

I move between Vista 64 (desktop, laptop) and Server 2008 (desktop) at home. Both are using a Linksys USB Wireless adapter (the one that looks like a flash stick, not the desktop wireless device).

When i used the USB extension cable that came with the adapter, i would have endless issues - at times, the device wouldn't even detect properly. I attempted another USB extension cable but ended up with the same results.

Then i plugged the adapter directly into the desktops and laptop, and everything worked 100%

Not sure if this is at all related to your issues, but it may be something to be aware of.

I did not use any extension cable, I plug my usb wifi flash type stick directly in my pc.

It seems to work perfectly now, even crysis multiplayer works.

It seems like the first time you plug the usb wifi adaptor in, it does not work and then you just keep plugging it in and trying it over and over, replugging it in etc, and not even changing any settings, it seems to get better. Does this make sense? Maybe there is some kind of diagnostic software running in the background that needs to adjust or the router and adaptor need to interact for a week to find the right ip address to work? Does this make sense?
