WISP's - Wilgeheuwel?

last i checked they cover our side of the world but wasn't there R499 on 1Mb?
Also start up cost a bit high about 1K

They've upgraded their accounts from what I last heard? But even so it's still cheaper. Anyway...your call.

Hi Isie

Please let me know if you are unable to get services from Telkom. Our offer still stands... we will let you try our services free of charge for 1 or 2 months.

FYI here are a few latency tests so clients know what to expect in JHB area.

If you looking for someone to test in the JHB area, I would love to try it out. I have Telkom, but my line is crap because I'm so far from the exchange. Please do PM me if you are looking for someone. I am in the lonehill/fourways area.

Hi Oliver

We'd be glad to offer you a test on our network. We do have several highsites covering some of Fourways and Lonehill but it has been a difficult area to cover well due to resistance from residents for towers etc.

Please DM me your address and contact details and I will ask our team to confirm coverage.

I'm just down the road from Wilgeheuwel in Allen's Nek...I use an Amobia 4mbps line at R799.00 per month. The connection in terms of bandwidth delivered to me is solid but the ping isn't as great as garthvs's tests. However, I wouldn't swop over for an extra R680 per month ;-)

Thanks for the feedback Neoprod.

This is a trial at the moment so we will take all feedback into account when officially launching.

Just a quick question. Where did you do the ping tests from. Inside your offices or from a clients premises?

Hi MDE

This was from our offices in Johannesburg which is almost identical to a client link but bigger.

We have lit our own Dark Fibre routes in Johannesburg which makes latency extremely low.

Here is a test from another client link:

PING www.google.co.za (74.125.233.87) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from 74.125.233.87: icmp_seq=1 ttl=61 time=6.50 ms
64 bytes from 74.125.233.87: icmp_seq=2 ttl=61 time=5.13 ms
64 bytes from 74.125.233.87: icmp_seq=3 ttl=61 time=5.61 ms
64 bytes from 74.125.233.87: icmp_seq=4 ttl=61 time=5.41 ms
64 bytes from 74.125.233.87: icmp_seq=5 ttl=61 time=5.63 ms

Hi Guys

We have taken your feedback into account and have adjusted our residential pricing as follows:

1Mb Uncapped - R 559 per month
2Mb Uncapped - R 662 per month
5Mb Uncapped - R 855 per month

As this is a trial we will not be charging for installation and supplying a Wifi Router free of charge.

We would really like to hear your comments regarding these prices.

is it 5MB up and down? and is P2P allowed on it?

Hi labratza

The bandwidth is asymmetric with 1Mb up on the 5Mb service. P2P is allowed but you will be throttled automatically after heavy use.

Unfortunately, international bandwidth is still at a premium in SA and if you had to download non stop at these prices it would be below cost for any ISP in SA.

So if anyone else has any ideas to help me out on getting service not quite the same area http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthr...h-coverage-corner-Beyers-Naude-and-Peter-Road

Amobia is a no go waiting on a reply from bitco.... from the bitco coverage map i a seem to be in the outer rings about the 5th one of a coverage circle... Not sure what kind of signal i can then expect to get?

Considering Bitco offer is free installation and modem + no charge for a month or 2- best option would be to try them.
If it works lucky you if not no cost on your part

Thanks Isie

I see the line speeds will only be fully upgraded by 1 March 2014.

Would you be interested in using our service for 1 or 2 months to see how it performs? This would be at absolutely no cost to you.

Garth

I'm trying to get a line connected to my place in Wilgeheuwel - I cannot seem to get this done by Telkom or anybody. Telkom says there are no lines left - or something close to that. Do I have other options? That aare good and not too expensive? <- I don't want to pay R799 for a capped situation.
