Witchfest 2015

You kind of took that out of context.

Let me put it into context then. You suggested that it might SEEM like it's a gathering of Satanists to ignorant people, but that it's ok because WE all know IT'S NOT A GATHERING OF SATANISTS.

I'm saying that a gathering of Satanists would still be ok, and they still wouldn't have a valid complaint in my eyes.

You've missed my point which is why I said that you should read it in context.
I fully agree that they have no point or reasons to think this way but that does not mean it does not happen.
Many different groups will throw as many hurdles as this as they can because they are narrow minded and afraid.

When I used to organize outdoor Psy parties I dealt with the same issues seen with this event venue.

Makes my blood boil! Can't believe we have such narrow minded people

Not altogether surprising - considering the issues that they've had up until now.

One would think so.

Surely Witchdoctor couldn't be forced to move venues on religious grounds?

Freedom of religion is entrenched in our constitution...

Not that the fest has anything to do with religion - but narrow minded bigots will always be narrow minded bigots.

What the utter ****?! I haven't gotten my ticket yet (will be my birthday present to myself), and am starting to feel there may not eventually be an event to go to. What a bunch of ****s!

It is worrying that these venue issue have been going on for so long and the latest one is happening so close to the event.

I suspect they will have to settle for an indoor venue somewhere.

As a member of a band that is playing at the Festival all I can say is I admire Shaughn, Alec and the rest of the WD crew for what they are doing. Although inexcusable, these sorts of things should be expected in a country with a largely conservative population. I know, however, that the festival is still going to happen... there has been too much invested from too many people for it to not happen! The question now however, is how do we stop these people from infringing on our, and other peoples rights in the future... How do we go about stopping while being the 'better person' so to say. I really do not hope we have metal heads stooping to these guys level and protesting their events... it would just end in a pitiful tit-for-tat war which will never end.

Just because there is a lot of time and money invested doesn't mean that the festival couldn't end up being cancelled.

New venue is looking quite interesting! I just booked a hotel suite in Braamfontein and will Uber back and forth. Keeping our camping tickets so I can get the secure parking to leave my van there with a keg of beer inside for hardcore lurking by the car between bands.

I think that venue is far too small - it's going to be exceptionally cramped.

Baseline in the CBD right? How're they going to get all those bands set up? Never mind the thousands of fans.

Yeah - it is in Newtown.

WDP seem to be convinced that there will be plenty space - I just think that the inside of the venue is going to be a super uncomfortable place to be when the international acts are on.
