Wits Windows 7 Licenses

Hi Guys. I am studying IS at Wits and as we program in VB, and I run a Mac, I need to install Microsoft Windows on my machine to do so. I want to get hold of windows 7 and when looking on the net to see if I qualify for a student discount I stumbled on an article with a quote from Colin Erasmus that said that certain institutions would be allowed to give out free licences to their students. Unfortunately no one at wits seems to know if this is possible so I question I need an answer to is does anyone at Wits know if wits can provide windows licenses and if so how do I go about getting one ?

Also, I have scoured the net to find an email address for someone at Microsoft SA to email and ask about this but cannot seem to find one. Does anyone have any contact email addresses at Microsoft I may be able to use to ask them this question?

Best thing to do is to go to the WITS ICTS department.

I was at UCT, and our ICTS dept handled all this kind of stuff.

For certain software, your faculty IT department may have free software, but for Windows its generally the whole university's ICTS/Computer Science dept.

That would be 'Wits Computer & Network Services (CNS)'. Visit the CNS helpdesk in Senate House and ask them :)

Ernest Skinner should be the guy to talk to. I hope he is still with IS department. We used to get our dev tools from the department, I am not sure about the OS though.
 
Here @ PUK we buy these things at our IT dept. Apparently you can buy a Win7(32or64 bit) with Office 2007 for around R420 (Students license). I think the license only lasts 3 years though, after that you would have to renew it through MS. Best you find out!

haha, another Wits IS student... doing IS3 now, and yeah Ernest is still there...
