Hi all,

Do you guys no where i can get WMV. HD Videos for xbox 360? :) like episodes etc already in wmv.?

not really available.. cause WMV format sucks at compression!

Tsk tsk, misinformed miscreant :p ;)

There's nothing wrong with WMV (WMV9/VC-1 specifically), it's a fantastic codec and is the choice codec of both Blu-ray and HD DVD.

The problem with getting content however is a legal issue not a technical one. In theory you can buy movies in WMV format from Amazon unbox, or if you have a US Live account you can buy them directly on the 360. But they won't sell outside the US :(

If you can, uh, source other movies in Divx etc, you can transcode them, either offline with something like erightsoft super on in real time with TVersity, if your PC is up to it.

WMV format sucks at compression?

It's one of the 3 formats that can be used on HD-DVD and Blue-ray. VC-1 aka WMVHD, h.264 and MPEG2-TS. Both VC-1 and h.264 are implementations of MPEG4. These are amazing technologies that use very complex algorithms to achieve very low bit-rates while still looking good.

WMV certainly does not suck at compression!

Go to http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/musicandvideo/hdvideo/contentshowcase.aspx and download the video called Super Speedway. This is a HD video with lots of fast motion and hardly any breakup. The video runs at only 8Mbps but still manages to look amazing.

I would have agreed with you if you had said that it sucks for acquisition, however it's a distribution codec and it does a fantastic job.

If the 360 can play h264 then there is plenty of that available online.

Enlighten me please - Is there anything stopping one from downloading HD in xvid format and simply re-encoding it to h264?

There's nothing stopping one from downloading HD in xvid format and re-encoding it to h264, but you loose quality when you transcode. It will also take far to long.

Hey bwana? Where you download HDTV shows?

I have in the past mistakenly downloaded some 720p content - and regularly see 1080i online as well - even for sitcoms like 2 1/2 men (2.5 gb).

Thanks guys for all your help. Its sucks. If there was any main torrent website or something to get wmv hd videos - but like full videos. That would so rule! :):D

If you're willing to try h264 then there are plenty of high res movies/shows available on all the major torrent sites. Just to warn you a typical movie in 1080p will be about 14gb.

So if I download a h264 movie, it will work? No converting? Just put it on the xbox harddrive? I got uncapped so its okay :)

What resolution is your tv? I wouldnt bother downloading a 1080p if you only have 720p or 1080i

Thank you will try it later. :) I know this is not on topic but does anyone have a invite or something to bit-hdtv.com :)
