Any reason for two PCs not picking up the LAN cable when plugged in - apart from one PCs onboard LAN being bust?

Both are enable in BIOS but don't even detect a cable being plugged in/out

*one of the 8 pins in the RJ45 connector might have come loose.

*one or more of the core wires might have been broken due to being crushed?

*lan disabled?
*lan card busted.

you must make sure for a pc<->pc setup to use a crossover 586A<->586B spec cable.

a network switch might work nicely here!

if its between two pc's direct then it must be a crossover cable not a normal one

not really hey, most new lan cards support both, so that won't be an issue unless the pc's are old...

but imo, i reckon that if one of the pc's ports being bust might be the thing causing it....

HOWEVER... you might need to re install the drivers... I had a similar problem, and then I about to buy a new lan card, but me better judgment came through and I re installed the drivers, now it works :p

test the cable first :)

and remember a crossover for 1000baseT4 is different to the normal 10/100 crossover..
