Wooden ladder

Good people

Apart from hardware stores, do any of you know of decorating shops that sell wooden ladders? It is needed for decorative purposes.

It has to be a "single sided ladder" (not sure of the correct term!), i.e. NOT the type that folds open.

Take two long planks and like five short planks and nail them all together. Voila, a ladder.
 
Rather make it just like the one in that pic. The wooden ladders you buy aren't decorative like that at all and will probably cost more than DIY. The type that folds open is called an "A frame". Not sure what the single sided is, maybe I frame :p
 
The single sided ladders are called a "lean-to" ladder.

And looking through the SA Ladder catalog you are going to have a very hard time finding a wooden one. All the new ones are aluminium or fibre-glass.

Wood is very expensive these days, so apart from the wooden "A frame" ones you won't find a single sided one.

Having said that though... there is nothing stopping you from buying one of the wooden A-Frame ones and unscrewing the hinge at the top so that you just have one side.

As a matter of fact, today I am looking for a place in JHB that sells (pre-prepared) roti dough. I do not mind cooking, but the bread just takes too long to make from scratch!
 
I see a small flaw with this plan. The steps of a ladder are at an angle to the support beams. Your books are going to fall off.

Get your SO to make you one.
 
I'm sure that I have seen similar shelving at @home or home etc

Used some "par-baked" roti's from Spar last week ... I'm sure they were from Anat bakeries. Pretty good and with spicy filling who's really going to notice that they aren't home made?

I have seen the Anat brand of pita breads and rotis being sold at Pick & Pay too. Somehow it just does not taste the same as traditional roti though. It's like Blue Ribbon bread versus home baked bread :)
 
if wood is expensive can i cut my 2 wooden ladders in half and sell each piece as a "lean to" ladder and make a mint?
