if wood is expensive can i cut my 2 wooden ladders in half and sell each piece as a "lean to" ladder and make a mint?

No, because the "lean to" ladder trend has already started and the first containers of cheap ladders are arriving from China shortly.

I'd go for custom made. A store bought one will be rather iffy imo.

• Type of wood is usually not aesthetically please. Too heavy grain.
• Finish is poor. Its meant to be load bearing not look fancy.
• Length will be wrong.
• Depth of steps will be to short to put anything on it.
• Angle of steps will be wrong.
• 99% will be aluminum or very cheap wood, so choice is very limited.

Rather find a woodwork dude w/ experience. Tell him it needs to look good, but not bear weight of a man.
