Na. The two pies are not the same. Woolworths regular pies are already pretty good, but they are a lot more flakey, and have a lot less meat in the filling compared to the farm style pies. The fsrmstyle pies are on par with Houwhoek or similar farm stall pies. Basically solid meat filling.
They are also made with Woolworths signature butter puff pastry, not the cheaper seed oil/margerine based pastry. The taste cannot be compared.
I am a pretty good home cook, and make a mean pie. But I have worked out the cost, and a similar quality homemade pie already costs me about R40.00 in ingredients alone. That is before adding in overhead. Expecting Woolworths to sell you that sort of pie, freshly baked and warm, with the convenience of getting it at a premium retail location, while you are doing your daily groceries, for anything less than R65.00, would simply mean they are selling it at a loss.
Instead of being offended by what WW charge for a premium pie (while their really good “regular” pies still cost R36.99), you should rather be asking why a Engen garage pie made from “meat” of unknown origin, and the cheapest, flakiest pastry, and not freshly baked, but rather just reheated on site, at R45-R50?
