Wootware 25% restocking fee on returns?

Interesting, did you mention you were going to open and test it? Maybe they like you more.

By law they can’t charge anything if you haven’t opened it (within 7 days), so perhaps.

My Dell was covered in protective wrap and the cables in sealed plastic bags that would need to be torn open, so I would suggest you have spare cables handy if you decide to go for it.
Yes, I asked about testing it and not being sure it would work well / be suitable for my computer.

Buying directly from DellOnline.co.za might be a safer bet though, even if it is R400 more expensive there.

It’s a 27” 1440p 144hz Dell S2721DGFA. I’m mainly concerned about the contrast / black levels, as I’ve read that aspect can be pretty sub-par on this monitor, but many people say it’s been fine for them.

Evetech seems to charge a 20% restocking/handling fee, and if you buy from Dell directly, potentially 15% or nothing. The monitor is a fee hundred Rand more expensive in those two places though, but the savings on the potential restocking fee might balance it out, especially if buying from Dell.

IPS monitors do have worse contrast than VA monitors, and these are slightly worse than average for IPS.
I have one, and it's perfectly fine to my eyes in an OK lit room. If you work with your curtains closed and no lights on, you might want deeper blacks, but even that is fine for me.
I think at night the contrast may be noticeably too low for me, but I haven't checked. I also don't have anything to compare it to.

To be honest, I notice the low resolution (with text and desktop use, not videos, gaming and images) more than I do the low contrast.

Buy from incredible connection. Test it. Return it. Buy from wootware
/evil
Haha, that could actually work.

Incredible Connection does say this on its website though:

“In line with the CPA a handling fee of up to 15% of the value of the product may be charged when the product/packaging is not returned in its original purchase condition.”

I've opened and returned two monitors and got refund without issue. I also notice boxes being taped again and then sold again.

I usually work with the lights on, so the dark room issue would probably not be a problem. I do video editing and some photo editing also though, so I’m mainly concerned about that.

Are you talking about 1440p as “low resolution” in general, or specifically this monitor? And do you use Windows or Mac? If Mac, it might be due to the way MacOS handles scaling, and there are ways to get around that with software.

In general. I use it next to a 4K 15" laptop and a 4K 27" Dell monitor.

I use it on Windows, and if it's colour accuracy you're after, it's probably not the best option unless you have a calibration tool. I had to play around quite a bit to get the saturation down to civilized levels, especially the red. This is in SDR mode, HDR mode is better I think, and MacOS might also handle it all better. I have seen in reviews they talk about it not having an SDR clamp, which helps with things like this.

For your use I would rather go for a 4K colour accurate monitor, but I see the most recent replacement to my P2715Q is sickeningly expensive.

You're buying the wrong monitor... This is a midrange gaming monitor prioritising refresh rate and response time over image quality. It will have far from optimal blacks and contrast for video and photo editing. You don't need 165Hz refresh rate for light for light gaming on a Mac. Rather try the S2721QS 4K Dell which has far superior image quality and also has very low response time.

I use that monitor with my Mac and I haven't noticed any issues.
I'm more sensitive to monitors than most.

I would stay away from this monitor as your concerns are not the only problem with it. This monitor has a terrible problem with over-saturating content because of its wide colour gamut and unfortunately it doesn't have a built-in sRGB clamp.

There are workarounds on Windows via Nvidia hacks and the AMD driver control panel but I'm not sure about Mac. Personally I would never buy this monitor again. I actually purchased it from Takealot and they gave me a full refund when I listed the over-saturation problem as my reason for returning it.
Can you not decrease the saturation / adjust the color settings in the monitor’s OSD?

It's probably technically possible. It has a menu option to change the saturation of each of the colours. I just couldn't get it looking the way I wanted to with just the OSD. With the nVidia control panel I can get it looking quite decent. In games it looks great. I still wouldn't edit photos on this monitor though, as I just can't trust the colours.
