So a quite a while ago I bought 2x8GB RAM sticks (Corsair) from WW, then decided a year later I needed some more. I got the identical RAM again 2x8GB sticks.

Once installed I discovered that X.M.P. will not work with all 4 sticks, I thought ok, XMP doesnt work with 4 sticks (I was thinking a hardware limitation or something) so i left it.

Then recently I watched a video which brought up XMP and I decided to revisit this "issue", I discovered that everything must match 100% even the RAM IC's themselves, I discovered that 3x of my RAM sticks are Samsung while the last one is Micron.

Could I ask WW to RMA this stick to ensure I get one with Samsung IC's or must I just accept it?

WW have excellent customer service, same day reply and speedy resolution every time...

This is not the way the internet works man. You cannot just contact a supplier who can do something about it, you have to first consult randos on the interforums for their input.

I mean sell both kits and go dual channel, even if they're both B dies there's no guarantee with 4 sticks will reach OC speeds with good stability, I have already been through this scenario

There is only 2 channels on this mobo, so 4x sticks is Dual.

If you're willing to fiddle a bit, Thaiphoon Burner will give you the programmed timings and voltage for the XMP profile on each stick. There's probably a mismatch somewhere that isn't working out when the BIOS applies the XMP settings.

Go into Thaiphoon click Read, choose a DIMM and then hit Report to get the screen below. You'll have to run at JEDEC defaults while you do that i.e. let the board boot with the 4 sticks at whatever default speed and timings it chooses (probably 2133 or 2400 mhz).



Note the timings for each DIMM and then set the timings manually in the BIOS using the slowest value for each setting from your individual DIMMs - leave the timings you don't have values for on AUTO.

With some luck, you might be able to resolve this yourself which is always kind of satisfying.

I've not used XMP timings for a long time due to a weird bug my Gigabyte LGA1155 board had - enabling XMP caused a chipset voltage (not even VDIMM) to be higher than they should be. So I got into the habit of setting the timings and voltages manually. Not a very useful habit but it does mean you know exactly what's happening under the hood.

this made me laugh for a good 5 minutes
