Hi

Im making a very simple 1 page web page.
Im using word 2007 to create it (which you probably wont like to hear)
Whenever I load the page in internet explorer the layout of the page is fine, but as soon as I load the page in firefox or google chrome the layout totally jumbles up and the pictures and text boxes go where they want to.

Does anyone have any idea what im doing wrong, or is there somekind of conversion program that I must use to complete the webpage?
I have also noticed that the quality of the images greatly reduces.

p.s. I am working in the web layout view.

Thanks in advance

You're using WORD to create a web page...

3 Guesses why it works perfectly in IE....

Microsoft...

Why?

They try and force their "standards" on everyone and ignores the W3C standard.

Word, using it creating a web page, will never render the same in any other browser except for IE because of all the crap markup language it includes that only IE understands

Sjoe, that was a bit long winded. Your issue is you're using a word processing application to try and design a web page.

It's like trying to screw in a lightbulb using pliers... it'll break the lightbulb each and everytime and *sometimes* shock the bajeezes out of you

If you're really set on making this work:

.... *glares*... can't believe I'm helping you with this....

Run your code through some WYSIWYG editor like FCKEditor (you know those web page type jobbies), click "Paste from Word" and hope to all things holy it can clean all the stupid **** code that word produces into nice HTML for you that will actually work in other browsers....

p.s I know I just guessed once when I said "3 guesses", that's because I know....
p.p.s Do you do all your word processing in excel? Cause I've seen people do that before you know...

You already know the problem. Here it is again, in your own words:

MS Word should never, EVER be used to create websites.

The HTML that MS Word will generate, will be far far far far away from standards compliance, it will be a horrible spagetti mess, it will hurt your eyes so badly, that you will want to gorge your eyes out with the dirty yellow-green nail on your grandad's left big toe.

I think you get the point.

There are many excellent, alternative web site generators, or HTML editors, that are easy to use, and will generate decent HTML code that is standards compliant. I'll allow other myBB users to provide you with names of these (mostly coz I don't know any - I'm a software developer, not a Web Designer).

EDIT: What AcidRazor said as well. Guess he beat me to responding first...

I haven't used Word for site design and don't use it in general but I think it would have something to do with Word's conditional statements that non - IE browsers have trouble rendering. I would recommend you consider using a different web page WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You get) design tool, even a free one.

You can also try Saving As "Web Page, filtered". That was from some of my Google results.

Probably not very helpful but I personally would recommend using a proper tool for the job. Word != proper tool. It is going to give you all types of errors and many of the tags will be MS specific. Word uses lots of rubbish like <mso> and that nonsense. Just search for a free wysiwyg html editor or get the DreamWeaver trial and do it correctly. DW trial probably your best bet and you could probably use what you have and use the 'Clean up Word' option to remove all the Word rubbish it generates.

hehe, knew I was going to get bashed for mentioning word, and yes I assumed because they were both microsoft and all that that was the reason for it working with internet explorer only.

Only reason why Im using it is because it has the webpage feature (which I heard about in primary school XD), and because I dont know anything like html.

Just got trellian and am looking forward to giving it a try, would use dreamweaver but Im not that far into my course yet (graphic design)

Thanks for all the help, and furthering my knowledge :)

ABORT THE COURSE. GET YOUR MONEY BACK.

*Any* Graphics course that doesn't show you the tools you'll be using (especially if going the route of the web) is a waste of money and time.

You should be using Photoshop CS4 (or whatever) for the graphic design. They even have tools to help cut out in HTML but I think Dreamweaver is used by my graphic designer... will check.

Srsly. Get your money back.

You should be able to do basic html and css with a plain text editor, not something that will generate the html+css for you. The only way to learn how things are supposed to work, is to do it manually, at least at first, so that you'll be able to spot problems.
You might want to start here: http://www.w3schools.com/
