Hi Guys,

A simple question of who do you think is the best or top 3 for wordpress hosting in SA? Looking at starting an online business for ladies fashion.

Thanks

If you don't have the expertise, rather go the Shopify route.

When everything is up and running you can start with marketing, which is required in your case according to your description.

Send me a pm any time if you need some advice or a quote for anything.

Look I was able to use free web hosting to launch wordpress with woocommerce and I played around with themes and plugins and I was able to do very basic things especially to the point of being able to create a product and checkout although the free webhosting is very restricting. I know things like marketing (like mailchimp, sending blue etc.) are costly the larger your subscribers are and things like caching and malware security are complex to understand but I would still rather go the wordpress route for now.

If you need simple shared WordPress hosting then, I suggest www.texo.co.za
Friendly folks, always ready to help.

They've been around for years. Some of my family members also use them.
I'm not affiliated with them, but I do suggest them for solutions like you need.
Thanks. Just out of curiosity if you know, is there something similar to the Stripe module as Stripe is not available to SA? payfast is good but i'd prefer when a customer checks out for payment, they pay same time on the checkout then being directed to another page for payment

It's just a payment processor/gateway. There are many to choose from locally.
Just do a Google South Africa search and see which one works for your needs.

I understand your reasoning, but even more extensive gateways do this.
You will need to do some manual integration via an API AFAIK to get your desired effect.

Domains.co.za do a specific Wordpress hosting packages I haven't used these yet myself but looking at the spec it is something I would seriously consider for a Wordpress project. Security and Backup features in particular catch my attention

With Wordpress and similar web applications applications, security hardening the installation is really important as there are plenty of pitfalls for the uninitiated and as the World's most popular CMS, insecurely configured Wordpress sites are a prime target for hackers. Especially if you are taking peoples money via your site, you want a decent hosting package - cheapest shared hosting or some skanky free hosting package is not good enough.

I agree with Tera that Shopify is a better option for an e-commerce site, especially if you don't have much technical experience.

I used free webhosting for testing purposes only but I would want a robust and secure web hosting service even if it means paying more I don't mind. I have taken every possible consideration like you mentioned with security and backup etc.. Just to get reports from shopify from a basic plan to a normal plan is quite a hike in pricing in my opinion to being paying monthly when I could be a saving a good couple hundred rands running a wordpress website instead. You could say i am a techie hobbiest and have a basic understanding of programming. I will call up both web hosting companies in this thread and see who is a preferable choice (though texo's newsletter service catches my attention which is far cheaper even on their highest plan compared to the likes of mailchimp, sending blue etc.)

Mod_Note: SPAM REMOVED

Good god man. If they can't hustle a half-decent website together, what are the chances they understand the intricacies of web hosting? Zero, I'd wager.

Also, why would anyone who doesn't live in Nigeria want to a Nigerian web host? Worst idea ever.

He's what we call a spammer. Thank you for taking the time to help him out.

I need guidance please - My Shopify store is near ready to go. It is a subscription box.
Here is the missing link: all the subscription apps on Shopify (e.g Bold, Recharge, Charge Rabbit: I need something prebuilt and easy-touse, as I am no coder) do not work with any SA payment gateways. They all use Stripe, Braintree or Authorise net etc, none of which are available in SA.

Payfast can perform recurring payments but it offers no subscription app, limited features (e.g. users cannot pause subscriptions) and looking at the instructions, they are not Shopify level easy.
So as a last resort, after hours of searching the web, how does one bridge the gap to get the UX functionality of a subscription box using only the basic paying function offered by SA gateways?

You should rather look at Client Billing solutions.

Clientexec or https://www.chargebee.com/automated-billing-software/ comes to mind.

You can run the billing/subscription service on another domain/third party solution and just integrate it in Shopify.

Like a link pointing to your billing/customer area etc.

Edit: I see chargebee is insanely expensive.
Check for alternatives here:
Can't recall if they were always that expensive.
