They probably agreed to help, and on the day, came with excuses, which left OP in a bit of a pickle. If you agreed to help, it's no longer optional, you said you would, and people are now counting on you.

Then he should have not agreed to help. It's not OK to drop someone after agreeing to help.

I ask my 3 colleagues on Tuesday to help me on Thursday with a rather big risky job. On Thursday morning, when arriving at the office, one came to me and said he must get 3 quotes for a car dent [headlamp fitting broke], and he is going to do it today. The Boss is on leave this week. After I told him you will go today to this planned job, he he started speaking about other stuff, and we all left without him to do the job.All of them knew and confirm that they are / is willing to help.

Not as difficult to figure out.

The boss is the boss of the household and finances i.e. the wife.
He runs a mechanic shop and his 3 sons work as mechanics.
The one son said he found a customers car has been dented.
He knows one of the sons must have taken the car on a joyride.
Determine which son dented the car if all act the same way
