It is never a good idea to tell them you are looking for a job before you have an offer...

Was my thinking, just felt I should give them some time to source a replacement as well.

They will have your 30 day notice period to do that. Do NOT tell them you are looking, only resign when you have a firm offer.

That is what the notice period is for.

You must also remember, depending on your profession and specialization, it could take a while to find a job that you would actually want...

Their issue, not yours. That's precisely why you have notice period for resignations. If the period isn't enough, then their fault.

OP's company may face momentary losses due to his resignation.
OP feels bad, and wants to perform a good will gesture and notify them sooner than lawfully needed.
