Workgroup : a form of security?

I've got my little home wireless setup with WEP and mac filtering (only allowing my 3 other devices).

But I don't use the standard 'Workgroup' as my PC workgroup. A PC without the same workgroup as the rest can't connect (I think).

Would this be a type of security, as a potential hacker wouldn't know the workgroup offhand?

Not at all, once the intruder successfully enters your network (use WPA if you can) and he selects the "View workgroup computers" option, which should only display his computer if he's on a different workgroup, all he has to do is use the "Up" function (or backspace) and he'll see a list of connected workgroups on the network.

Yip, workgroup itself is no security at all.

WEP is pretty secure. If he manages to get through the encryption there, he can pick up a valid MAC addresses, and set his network adapter to match them.

If he manages to do all that, your network is compromised.
