In saying that, I am fully aware of many people who (deliberately) chose not to enjoy the world cup even while it was on, so comments like that really don't surprise me.
I thoroughly enjoyed it ... JHB was THE place to be during the SWC
Sorry you missed out buddy ! The average poor person did not see an improvement in her life due to the SWC.

Yes it had a major buzz, but CT's match day experience was by far the best. There was no other experience in other host cities that came close for me.
In Jhb, it was more a case of making sure you took the right bus, which took you to another bus, which took you to the stadium, and then you made sure you could find your way back.
In Dbn, you could walk from our hotel along the beach to the stadium, which should have been a fan mile!!
Then there was that Germany vs. Argentina match, incredible, without hundreds of thousands on the fan walk alone, excl the CBD, waterfront etc.
The euphoria yes, but I use the Gautrain everyweek and upgraded highways everyday so it hasnt gone back to how it was for me.

Can't remember the last time I heard a vuvuzela, still enjoying the infrastructure upgrades.

I really do think Afcon 2015 can be quite special if we really try to bring Africans and non-Africans from across the continent.

The focus should be on maintaining the infrastructure and finding a profitable use for it. A pity that SA could not have picked up the Commonwealth Games given the problems in Delhi. Perhaps, however, two major events in one year would have been one too much, not that the Commonwealth Games attracts anything like the interest in a FIFA World Cup.

I was at the Stadium for this game... Being German myself it was the best day of the whole world cup for me, 2nd was watching Ger vs Aus in Dbn for my first taste of SWC 2010..... Spent the week in DBN, camping with a bunch of Aussie fans..... Took a lot of flak before the game.... they were very quiet afterwards...
