World Cup dominates local searches

indication of the success of the University’s aim to move into the digital era.
You mean they found out what computers are for? :D

Can I ask who the idiots are who search for ABSA every month.

www.absa.co.za is not a difficult web address to remember.... Shows the average intelligence of our internet users...

It just makes me cry

gavin: It's quicker to type 'absa' and click the first result (or hit 'i'm feeling lucky) than type 'www.absa.co.za', especially given the majority of people don't touch-type. Most people do this for convenience.

Also, of those people who search for "ABSA", not all of them were looking for the ABSA website, many might have been looking for other information relating to ABSA.

Slowly but surely entertainment related search terms, like ‘World Cup’, are creeping in to the South Africa Google search term list.
But still seven of the top ten searches were "address bar" searches like Absa, Nedbank etc.

@Turtle: I get your point, but if you're looking for an online bank, like the majority of these searches, surely you're visiting at least a couple of times a month. Isn't it easier to bookmark it? And the other people who are searching for Absa-information surely can't form a greater proportion of SA online searchers than those search for Jessica Alba?

Anybody ever heard of 'auto-complete' - it's what happens when I type IO (in the address bar)... and get taken to iol.co.za - or MY... and get taken to myadsl.co.za... or ST and get taken to standard bank.co.za - as these are the sites I usually visit.

Average User = Clueless in the extreme
