World Cup site breaks 'hit' record

Might as well ..

Call the whole South Africa hosting the 2010 World Cup as a bad joke and save ourselves the embarresment.

The site has already had more than 2.5 billion "hits" in the opening fortnight of the event.

That is more than the total for the whole of the 2002 World Cup in Japan and South Korea.

June 22 saw 294 million site clics with an average five million users daily.
With the rest of the world leaping ahead in huge strides regarding broadband enhancements and developments thanks to their freely competitive markets - by the time it's 2010, you can expect to at least double that 2.5 billion "hits" and up the daily clicks from five million to around 10 million. There is NO way our telecoms industry will be able handle that much data based upon the current state of our infrastructure :(

Heck, I'm still waiting 11 days now for a noise on my line which is blamed on somebody's electric fence causing "an induction interference" on the Telkom streetbox 2 metres away (oh and the absolute best part: it's only affecting some of the lines - not all

With our high contention, substandard service and merry-go-round fault blaming and delayed repairs, we have a snowball's chance in hades of successfully hosting the 2010 World Cup unless drastic measures are made now.
