So anyways with all the egg on face i am seeing things in a better light at the moment.

Not many of us could see the it happening and let's be honest the confed went off without a hitch, had some other big stuff with nothing bad happened

Even with the crime and corruption what are your thoughts on SA actually not becoming another African stat?

I came home a meeting in pretora tonight and i very rarely use the pretoria n1 but driving on the highway it is staggering the amount of progress being made. Wonderful to drive from jhb to PTA with no traffic at 6.

Maybe we can make this country a power house, even with all the shyte lately i have seen things improving.

Just maybe the doom and gloom predicted was a bit out of line. Starting to move into the optimistic way of life i reckon

A bit premature and i hope nothing bad happens but sa in general seems and on the up and not down. What do the doom and gloom people like me think?

Go bafana
!!!! that is all that matters

Oh my God!

You see people, it is these sort of intangible benefits of the world cup that just can't be quantified and have a monetary value attached to it! :D

The stadiums will all burn down before next Friday. All the soccer players will come down with Swine Flu. All the hotels will fall into Dolomite sink holes. All your TV licenses will expire before next Friday.

Trust me... there is no way this is gonna happen ;)

killadoob and a slight hint of positivity?!
Maybe it will snow? or FIFA will foot the bill? or not

In the morning the anc/sacp/cosatu will still be ugly... :p

However, the next month will be a happy haze for most. ;)

Good luck to everyone involved and pushing to make the WC a success! :D

I have felt neutral about the WC for a long time...but I must admit that I am starting to feel the excitement...I might even watch a game or two! :)

Drogba being out is a slight downer... I'm wondering what African country I should support after Bafana (if they go out:erm:)

I'm not sure if any of you heard that Cape Talk advert with Aden Thomas talking about how far we've come to prepare for the world cup... its cheesy but it gave me this bubbly feeling and I couldn't help but smile.

Not many of us could see the it happening ...

some of us did. but nice to see some ppl at least getting with the vibe...

SA is a great country, and will be a success, because we have people who want it to be,

we also have idiots who don't - the malemas on one side, and the lightscribes, dreamkings, marine1s on the other.

the only thing that matters is that real south africans will make it work, irregardless of the neaderthals mentioned above.

Well to a degree i am just as bad as marine and dreamking, nobody is as bad as lightscribe though :D. Ya i think being positive is actually better. No point being bitter and twisted. Not when i saw how glorious the highways looked last night. I never used them because the traffic is so heavy, first time i have been on the n1 from randburg to pretoria in about a year and wow is all i can say.

Dammit lance you are rubbing off on me :D.

On an even better note france's poor form continues with a massive loss to china :D.

I can say the same for the R21 from Pretoria to the OR Tambo airport (and back). Yesterday they were removing many of the cement blocks that they used to demarcate road lanes and they will be opening 3 or 4 lanes each way either tomorrow or Monday.

I've traveled along the R21/24 between Eastgate and OR Tambo everyday for the last 17 years and it is remarkable the upgrades that have happened on that stretch. Lane widening, road resurfacing, new on ramps off ramps and of course the Gautrain which passes over the road network right by the airport. To add to that council has put up flags along most of the road and lighting on stretches were there previously was known.

Apparently a further 35000 policemen have been employed specifically for the WC and after.

Personally I think this WC is absolutely bloody awesome!!! The positivity sweeping through the nation is palpable. The stadiums are stunning, the countries inhabitants, for the most part, are buoyant and upbeat, the national team is performing admirably. I'v never seen the streets so clean, I've never seen so many mirror socks and SA flags!!!! It's bloody marvelous!!!

I've never been so proud to be South African!!!!

does anybody have pics of the road between eastgate and the airport??

the last time i went past they where still putting the flags up.

I still think the fly-over at gilloolys (sp.) is the best piece of construction i've seen so far

Well I'll be damned. Are we going to see a trend where people actually start to realize how self damaging and self hating it is to hate their country and wish it to fail ?

But yes there is so much development and rejuvenation going on right now. most of it not world cup related , but a lot of the momentum getting it going as a trend started with the world cup. Saw some pics about the JHB CBD the other day and was quite amazed. The Durban beachfront too. My own town. Everywhere. No doubt there's some larneys giving kick backs for these development contracts which is keeping the ball rolling and if so long may it last.

When I see a post on the internet now from someone claiming south Africa is in some sort of state of getting worse I immediately know that person either does not live in South Africa anymore and is totally out of touch, or that person is old in their ways and stop noticing any form of change years ago. People like Mila are around too who are frankly are just.....let me stop there. The words rhyme with rum and cupid. That and they can't think for themselves so they latched onto what sadly was the hubris of white South Africa for the past few years , which is to be as miserable a negative as possible without ever question whether it was valid to do so.

I really do think if more people like killadoob stopped drinking the cool aid and realized how totally bankrupt the idea that you can help fix anything by hoping it breaks is. I guess all that was really necessary is that you actually didn't want it to break in the first place. Anyway welcome aboard Killadoob. Next stop a better country.

I think a lot of people actually are tired and bored of their negative hapless routine and actually want to get in the game rather than sit on the sidelines and throw peanuts. They're just worried if they do that's some form of nod to the A.N.c. Man...**** the A.N.C ! Do they really affect your life in any tangible way ? Hell no. We're one of the wealthiest and most privileged groups of people alive (white South Africans). We don't need government hand outs and stuff like that to get by. Choose to be part of your countries future. It's not "us" versus "them" anymore...get it ? We're all south Africans and our future lies in each others hands. We don't lose if black people have better lives. We benefit from less crime and from having new emerging markets to sell and serve to. We're the same country now. We don't have to still be fighting each other. The swaart gevaar is gone ! Get the propaganda and brain washing out of your mind.
