Saw bf3 on kalahari for 87rand. So I thought to myself, heck, bf4 is coming out soon but for 87 rand I could enjoy myself for a couple months.

  • How many gigs of updates would I have to download?
  • Do I have to buy additional expansion packs to play in SA?
  • Are servers sill full enough to warrent joining the scene this late?

Are there any "catches" to spending 87 rand on bf3 and thinking that im going to enjoy myself?

about 10gb patches depends .

no need for extra dlcs, you can just play normal maps , most people play metro anyway.

Yeah people still playing

I wouldn't bother at this point. You're not Premium, so you're going to wait in server queues for ages (Premium members get to jump the queue. Bull****, I know). Many people are still playing, but I've never seen the community as bad as it is currently.

If I were you, I'd just wait for BF4. That's releasing in a few months and it will be better to get into the game when everyone is still new as opposed to jumping into a game in its last few months of life.

That said, I think BF3 is shjt anyway. It's way too arcady for a BF game.

Where do you come with most people playing Metro? 10GB's probably only for the base pack, not all the expansions.

Why is it BS if Premium Member jump the queue? We paid for it! Anyway, there are tons of servers that have free spots, so I don't know what the issue is with queues.

There are still plenty servers that only run the base pack, so you'd still get some decent gaming in while you wait for BF4.

BTW, what other FPS'ers do you play if you think BF3 is "arcady"?

I don't think BF3 is arcady, I know it is. It plays more like CoD than it does BF2.

As for the Premium queue jumping bull****, it is complete BS. I bought BF3, then I had the same rights to play on servers as any other players. Now I decide not to buy Premium because I'm not interested in the DLC and suddenly I'm a second-rate customer and other people have more rights to play on servers than me? BS. Even Premium members were complaining about how unfair the queue jumping was towards non-premium members.

Buying Premium should give you advantages, yes, but those advantages shouldn't come at a disadvantage to non-premium members. It would have been fine if they at least gave server admins the option to switch server queue priority off, but they don't.

So are you cross at the company for making money or because you are poor?

:D

BF3 is a completely different engine to BF2, what did you expect? You're talking about a game released in 2005 vs a game released in 2011. BF3 has destructable buildings, BF2 had none of that - now seriously, which is more "arcady"?

they always full the server, most normal people just play for fun , and metro is fun.

Allot of top guys also play there easy way to boost stats

Metro is more of a camp-fest than anything else.

For R87 its worth it, even if you just play single player.

I'm cross at them for giving people advantages that actively disadvantage other players. If Blizzard were to give people the ability to pay to skip queues, there would be a community-wide outcry. In BF3 it was largely ignored because 90% of BF3 players are sheeple who just say 'baaah' and throw money at whatever costs money.

If I choose not to buy the new DLC, why should this mean I have to be disadvantaged because of it? The new DLC is a waste in any case. How many people in ZA play the new DLC content past the first few weeks? Everyone just plays the vanilla content. Why then should I spend R500 on Premium when I'm not even going to get the chance to play the majority of content it adds to the game? I bought the Vietnam DLC for BC2 back in the day, and to this day I still haven't played it because everyone just stuck to vanilla BC2. How is BF3 any different?

No thank you, I prefer to buy games from companies who don't see me as a wallet on legs. I'll stick to ArmA3, thanks.

Are you being serious here? Please tell me you're not. Destructible buildings != less arcady.

BF2 is a much better, as well as much more realistic game than BF3. The gunplay in BF3 is more or less the exact same fast-paced, twitchy garbage we've come to expect from the CoD series. It's essentially a CoD game with large maps and vehicles.

Have to agree.

I know I go on a bit but really...change your view of battlefield 2 and what it can be. Buy bf2 for R59 then download this FREE 6GB mod.

Have a look at the trailer.
I have played for the last 2years or so on the previous versions of this game on European servers with a 200ping and US with a 300 or so ping. It works great and its THE BOMB. Great mix of arcade and realism and a game that requires teamwork and communication. Integrated Mumble, a brilliant in game VoIP system. I promise you, if you are vaguely mature and like FPS's give this a go, even more so if you were a bf2 fan .

Thanks man, I'll definitely check that out. I've seen the mod mentioned a few times, but I didn't know how playable it was on international servers.

Luckily I own the BF2 collection on Steam.

Well this arrived today... 20GB download means I won't be playing it today though.
