k, at the moment I have

AMD 64 3500+
MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum
2x512mb DDR400
3D Prophet 9700 pro 128mb AGP
Western Digital 250 gig SATA2 7200rpm
Logitech Z5500 (just to make my PC look a lil better :D )

3D Mark 05 : around 2300

Now with DX10 coming soon, is it worth it to upgrade to maybe a 6800gt just to maybe last me until prices for the DX10 cards start to lower a bit since most new cards mostly start at a crazy price?

hmm... well your graphics is probably the bottleneck right now in your PC< but that 9700 could probably last until the new cards drop a bit in the mid range...

Basically its up to you, if there are gamees you play and you think it cant handle them on whatevere settings you want to play at, then you should upgrade if its worth the money to you, but your just going to end up selling the card at a pretty low price if the new range just came out.

well i got a 3200+ and a ati X1600pro and thats starting to do the old freaze frame trick with games... im moving towards intel core 2 duo as soon as more boards come out... coz even though my card aint a best it is bottle necked by my 3200+... which does cos problems in games like oblivion and when unreal tournament 2007 comes out my computer is ganna take hours... just to get to the next frame... i mean that game need's some thing like a 2.8 ghz which means my humble 2.0ghz is ganna be dead... but its up to you mate up see we aint a sw33t spot to upgrade with dx10 out next month and core 2 duo :)

It's gonna be a while before games are written exclusively for DX10. Get the 6800GT (or better still the 7600GT) if you don't mind spending the cash to get you through the next year or so.

ya but i would be nice with dx10 (braging rights) and no... ut 2007 is dx10 and is... well amazing... sure you need a best to run it but omg its really quite the game... and there are quite a few that aint gonna be good but they will be dx10

Another problem is actually finding nice 2nd hand AGP cards or even cheap new agp cards, I mean I've seen 6800 ultra's that are still going up to the R3000 mark which is a complete waste i think

coz the new intel rape amd... i love amd but if there's anything intel have really brought there A game... the core2 duo make a mockery of amd's cpu's. well if you look at it from my point of view a R3000 intel will own a R12 000 amd, and buy that a mean WILL KILL IT I EVERY TEST... so bare with me i was amd... but i thought amd must use less power and thus make less heat BUT intel own amd in that to... my thoughts are amd where to busy buying ati and thought intel wouldn't be any competion this time around. so if anything the next batch pf cpu's will be awesom... so about in another year they both will be making monsters

err, UT2007 is DX9. All screnies you've seen are DX9. DOn't know where this DX10 thing comes from. The game will be aware of DX10 hardware and behave accordingly, but ther won't be any significant visual difference if any at all between what you've seen and what it'll look like on XP and DX9 class gpu.

Anyway, You should go intel if yo have the funds, but bare in mind that with a 9700 buying either X2 or Core2 will show no difference. You'll be heavily GPU bound so going for the expensive CPU would be a waste.

However you can get some good performance out of an AMD 4200/4400+ at very good prices. Should last you some time as well until Quad Core arrives to the average user.

I wouldn't invest into an AGP card right now though unless you get those AGP and PCI-e boards :)

Hi I have the exact same system as you except... for the vga card which myne is the Sapphire radeon x800xt Platinum 256mb, and , AMD 64bit 4000+ CPU...

and I get 5600points on 3d Mark 05

why is the score points so different?

er probly the 128mb

It probably has more to do with the fact that your card is a high end next gen card compared to a mid end card.

Didn't read the whole thread, so if you your being sarcastic... bleh :p

Like he said a 9700 pro can't really be compared to an X800XT PE as well there is a big difference between the 2, think of an X800XT PE being on level with a 6800 ultra/prob gt in some places and my 9700 is about inbetween a 6600 and a 6600GT
