Would you buy imported PC hardware ?

There is something else to consider.

If you do go through all this hassle, and do sell it under no warranty, you're still going to get morons coming back to you demanding a refund for a product that fails, and threatning all kinds of rubbish no matter how many times you say ... NO WARRANTY. Can you handle that kind of heat?

Your other choice is to sell them as running second hand machines, there the peeps will expect super duper low prices, so your profit is marginalised.

I was thinking of being straight out when it comes to customer service. Let them know what they are buying and I doubt there will be any issues. But then again, we South Africans are very demanding :D

My reasoning is that the cheaper stuff sells much faster, which could enable you to start offering some sort of a warranty later on (when you start making money) and people will take risks (no-warranty) easier on a R1 300 card than a R4 500 in this example.

Your 100% correct.

So your saying you'll be prepaired to take the gamble for lets say under R 1500 ?

This is I have never had any Hardware issues once it's in. But I don't want to come out and say... If you have issues bring it back as there is no support for me. But yea once the business is making money one could up the price and replace the broken sets. This idea is really flying with my head. Guys if you have any suggestions pls let me know. I honestly think I'm going for this ;)
 
I don't know the details, but just make sure on the full pc units if the PSU is compatable with us, otherwise you will need to factor in a replacement PSU.
 
I am with the other guys. I would buy certain stuff if it was cheap and if it worked out the box.

Also, as long as you are up-front with the customers as to where the stuff is from and the fact that it has no warranty then you should be fine...
 
Smashing idea that! I am not sure in what province you are, however I was going to do a computer biz in the Cape Town area. Have a extra tech to my disposal and everything, problem came where I had to get my cc and cheque account going. Thus I have built up quite a bit of clients, lemme know if you interested in talking. We could maybe partner up in some way.

Anyway, just a thought, as I do have the client base and if you're not in Cape Town, it's a extra City you're covering :)

BTW, the smaller sales for non warranty (i.e under 1500) is definitely your gold.

Now, why would people pay that when they can do the exact same thing, shipping it from USA and an 8800gts, including vat and shipping comes to R2200... And it has 30 day swap out so you can resend to US if need be...

woah nelly, laptop guys...

I personally would not even think of touching a laptop if it doesn't come with NBD repair for at LEAST 1 year.

And you saying zero warranty, ouch

Pitbull... One warning.

The reason that Japanese stuff looks VERY cheap atm is because of exchange rate fluctuation. Most of those products are made in Taiwan/China and were imported into Japan when the Yen was quite strong, but recently the Yen has weakened considerably. Thus new imports from Taiwan into Japan will be substantially more expensive. It may be a good deal as a one-off, but i wouldn't base a business on it.

If you're looking to set up a business, it would probably be better to go to the source... i.e. Taiwan.
 
I've got friends in Taiwan, and I've found after all costs the items arent much cheaper than in SA.

Add to that the language barrier, time zone issues, exchange rates etc, and you may have a few more hassles than you bargained for...
