Would you consider this DigitalPlanet's fault?

Hello,

I have a lot of these eBucks and decided to blow it on random hardware for myself and my mom. DigitalPlanet is really the only place you can spend your money on for hardware. I see on their site that if you find a cheaper place to get a product you can mail them. Well, I was able to beat about 6/10 products I wanted to order. I got a reply back, and was told they cannot beat any of the prices and "I must check if the products from the other site are not grey market".

Although I could find cheaper places to get the products I wanted, I still decided to go with DigitalPlanet. After making my order, I noticed that I have to wait TWO WEEKS (a little less now) for some of my products to be in stock and another additional 5-7 days for shipping. I emailed them and told them this wasn't cool. They then told me that there was no way they can get some of the products to me quicker, and if they do not receive the products from their suppliers in 2 weeks they will be forced to cancel my order. They also gave me the option of canceling my order altogether

So basically now I have to wait 2 weeks and I MIGHT get my products, otherwise I have to start looking elsewhere.

Is this the suppliers fault or DigitalPlanet?

Mostly the suppliers, if you look at any other online shop take2 or kalahari they also order from their suppliers first which usually takes 2 weeks and then when they get stock the items ship the next day.

It's bull**** though as it doesn't say this anywhere on the site. All it says is it takes 5-7 working days for the item to get to you.

There are many things you have to think of before you can blame someone. Are there suppliers local or int. If local their suppliers probably have to get it in from another int company. Then the products can get stuck in customs in both cases. So you have many people you can blame. the factory that they import or their suppliers import it from. A factory can also only produce a certain amount of stock. Or the company that it get imported from for promising to too many people, so the factory can't produce enough products in the allocated time. There are many other delays that come into play that we might not know about.

Digital planet can't really blamed anymore than any other supplier. At least they don't lie about it and say you will get your products with in 5 days and then you wait 5 months ;)

Actually they're just plain useless in my experience and can't give their clients any idea about the expected date of shipping or delivery. I gave up on ordering from them. I'd rather source my hardware from someone who has a firmer idea (even within a 3-5 day window).

But the thing is, it's not like this is some new hardware or anything. One of the products they are unable to get is a Western Digital hard drive. Something like this is available pretty much anywhere.

Thank you! Woohoo

Normally these types of site clearly state that you will receive your order with in 5-7 working days if there is stock. So if they don't clearly state that some where then they are partly to blame. If they don't say that on the site, but let you know via email shortly after you ordered, then it's a bit better though, they should give you the option of canceling the order rather if you want. As long as they let you know what's happening and give you the option of canceling the order or only a few items, I think it's fine. This way you have another option of getting your stuff elsewhere.

But if they're the only place to spend your ebucks, then that's life!

If they are useless, it's easy. Don't order from them ;)

Some companies have the ability to provide service and others don't. I feel sorry for you if you can't find your hardware anywhere else by using ebucks though.

You will be lucky if Digital Planet can meet the two week deadline. If my experience with them is anything to go by, not even two months will be enough. Things which they advertise on their website(such as PSP games) is freely available just about anywhere else, except their supplier cannot source DP. Another item was delivered within 3 days after ordering from another store yet DP could not supply. Most useless store in the whole world.

Avoid them like the plague!

I am going to ask them to send the stuff they have in stock. Lets see if they are able to do that.

Ive found digital planet to be really good IF their suppliers deliver on time. When i get the "extended delivery bla bla" email and they cannot give me a delivery date, i cancel immediately. At other times, everything went smoothly and the few times i got an extended delivery with a confirmed date, I got my good around that date.

Based on my DP experience, I'd say take your eBucks and run... (perhaps to Makro or Kalahari?)

I've actually wondered whether they have any stock at all - it seems like they only order "on demand" (once you've placed your order).

In the computer world that is very possible. The problem is that hardware prices change so much that it's not always possible to keep stock of everything.

Let me ask you this, would you keep stock of a gfx card that costs R3000 at cost that you can sell for R3500-4000 if you knew that it could cost R2500 selling price in a week or two?

Having stock of some things just isn't worth it. They could keep selling it at the expensive price but chances are they won't sell it very soon or at all.

Personally I feel that online shops should indicate on the page, if the product is in stock or not. It's very simple to implement, and will give people a better idea of when to expect their orders.

I have to agree with flarkit, bullfrog and ernstn. They're useless. They never have anything you order and plenty of the stuff on their site are "no longer made" if you're to believe them.
Another problem with placing an order is that you have to pay beforehand, and in the event that they can't fill it you have to get a refund. Now that's damn near impossible. I've been waiting for a refund from them for more than a month now (fortunately it's a small amount) but I sure as hell will not do business with them again.

you have ebucks and you tried to order from DP? For the love of g0d! WHY?! Rather blow the ebucks on lottery tickets or some other such meaningless spend - at least you'll have a CHANCE of getting something back.

DP are useless in extremis.

I agree with Killadoob, Sybaritic have to get an award or something for service, got my stuff from them in 2 working days & when I had a problem with my order (2 items were on the list, instead of 1) they had a guy on msn messenger all day everyday(even on weekends) that literally sorted it out in under 10 seconds :)
