Ok interesting situation.

Every Tom, Dick and Harry is doing VoIP these days right. Theres VOX, MWEB, FNB, Connection Telecom and so on and so forth. All of them seem to offer "free on-net" calls. Well Connection Telecom in this case limit you to 500 minutes or something like that.

Anyway, so heres the fun part. I'm on FNB for instance, and my mate on VOX, and guess what, we still pay for a call between ourselves.

Remedy 1) We both sign up with the same service provider - Not always the best idea, as some service providers charge to much. Others have really bad call rates, and some just suck completely.

Remedy 2) We setup a little voip box on the internet, which we both connect to, and then dial each other's secret extension number. This gives us free on-net calls, but we're paying for the hosting side - so definitely not a win.

I'm sure theres plenty of other remedies one could use, but the trick here is, would you pay to have your new VoIP number reachable across all networks at the cheapest (or free) rate possible? And while at it, even allow your current telkom line or cellphone number to be reachable via the VoIP network?

And if you would pay, how much do you think it would be worth?

Me personally, I'd pay between R10 and R25 per month for that. Having my number reachable for free over any network would be great for my friends and family, as well as my business requirements.

Anyway, just my 10c worth.. I can't sleep, so just thought I'd blurt my mind.

Thanks for listening ;-) (reading)

My feeling is that if you charged for such a service then you'd basically be another "Tom, Dick [or] Harry" except without the benefit of break-out to real networks.

Personally, I'd sooner pay R50 a month for free on-net + a full inbound and outbound service than R15 a month for a free on-net service.

gmza.

The service would cater for breaking out, as well as inbound services. Its not just about the on-net calls, but rather the ability to call each other at the cheapest (or free) possible rate via voip.

Hope that helps.
