Wounded Nation

Yet again readin that article i realise in what a sorry state this country is in. It only took 14 years for the ANC to bring this country to its knees and on the verge of collapse. Shocking! Really Shocking!

Most of the contents of the article are true, but there's some unfortunate editorialising that detracts from the validity of the article.

The currency, the rand, has entered freefall.
This is unsubstantiated. Yes, the rand slid 3% against the U.S. dollar after Manuel's budget speech and exchange controls were relaxed, but it's hardly in "freefall".

Newly elected African National Congress (ANC) leader Jacob Zuma, the state president-in-waiting, narrowly escaped being jailed for raping an HIV-positive woman last year...
We don't have to like his attitude to women and gay people, but he was acquitted. This is not the same as "narrowly escaping". Yes I know I'm being picky, but the usage in this context is pejorative.

It all adds up to a hydra-headed crisis of huge proportions - a perfect storm as the Rainbow Nation slides off the end of the rainbow and descends in the direction of the massed ranks of failed African states.
I'm no expert but it's probably best to actually catalogue all the problems objectively first, and then wax lyrical with the mythological metaphors :D.

It is freefalling... just before JZ was announced as next prez, the R was at 6.68... like 1 month later and we are R1 down... Pound was at 13.xx now we are heading for R16... I dont think the freefall implied means since yesterday

"No longer South Africa - more like South Zimbabwe. "

:D

It's tragic, a really very sad state of affairs. I never thought I would live to see this happen. SA, I weep for you.:(

suppose there is only 3 options now (unless theres more)

a) leave
b) judge dread style, kill or by killed
c) take over by force and reform government

since being just a "citizen" you can't really do much but bend over and take it - not like are voices are really heard by those in their fancy little pipe dreams of no crime and problems

They didn't mention that 8000+ SKILLED people leave this country every single month (study done since 1995 on Carte Blanche)................

An economist told me recently, milk as much as you can from this country. And when shi t hits the fan(cos it will), f8ck off out of here. Let's hope it's that easy... :(

Yep...otherwise you'll die figuratively ( or even litterly )

What country you living boet? No one cares about the US dollar, we all going to Oz anyway, so we watching that dollar. In August 2007, it was R5.80/A$1, in January 2008 R6.21/A$1, today R7.35/A$1. How does that not qualify as freefalling?

When you trying to get the proceeds of your house sale out, you are literally losing Tens of Thousands a day as the Rand FREEFALLS.

Do not sell your house, rent it instead.
Servicing your bond and other debts from Australia(at the current exchange rate) will not cost you an arm and a leg.

Keep the back door open, you may want to come back(how unlikely it may seem now)

Strange that the usuals ignore this thread. They must have seen the facts and truth of the "African Image of Zimbabwe" in that report and is making plans ...................... backup to leave maybe? :D

Just joking, I am sure they would stay and vote for the next Mugabe until everything is gone and they restart all over. Thats what they want as one specified in another thread.

All is factual and as predicted what is going to happen, lllooonnnnggggg ttttiiiimmmmeeee aaaaggggoooo, damn sticky keys!.

Anyway quite damning. Time to get the passports renewed.
