playing wow using neotel - getting an average of 700 ms ping and no signs of lag whatsoever - even when running through Ogrimaar on a weekend.

Does that include moving to Zimbabwe ? :p

But your crapometer is quite spot on, Neotel will give you a decent connection but it is not for gaming. latency will be a problem for a long time to come still on wireless. I don't even like to use the wireless option of my router since it gives me about 20ms longer latencies.

I play Wow on neotel Prime
I have 3 bars on my phone with rssi value of 77 to 80
External antena yaga 14 dbi with 10 meter low loss cable
I play on the eu server
on aerie peak
on good days i have a ping of 350 to 450 and on bad days it goes to 3000
what i have noticed it when I do a tracert rout to eu.logon.worldofwarcraft.com the local ping is under 150 ms which is great its starts to get high after it leaves the country in fact the 2nd hop in london is where it goes above 600 ms
I managed to do a 40 man raid Called for the alliance and I didnt drop once which was fantastic.
I have done many 10 and 25 man raids with neotel and I must say I only had one run which I was unable to complete due to lag issues.

give me a shout if u want any more info

To the uninformed:

700 ms ping IS the "lag" (aka: latency)

By signs of "lag" I'm sure you mean packet-loss which means your gaming experiences is jittery to the point where it's unplayable and you die alot.

So what you have is a high latency with no packet-loss making WoW playable over Neotel.

However, as with any wireless provider. The more congested it gets the more packet-loss you will get.

Sentech started out GREAT.... got congested
iBurst started out GREAT.... got congested
3G started out GREAT.... got congested
WiMax started out GREAT.... got congested

The limitation to wireless is the radio tower. It doesn't always have the necessary ability to expand in terms of bandwidth required to sustain many users. thats why you'll have many towers covering 1 area (as with a cellphone). If a tower is congested and gives you the best signal, you will be bumped to one with less signal that's not as congested. Even though this sounds like a good idea, once the tower closest to you isn't congested anymore you get bumped back to the strongest one and guess what.... it causes packet-loss.

I loathe wireless with all my being. It has always let me down and will always let me down.

That being said... I'm trying Telkom Wimax as a last mile solution... :D

let me point this out so every one knows. tracerting the route to eu.logon is pointless, the site they host the server is not the same site they host the servers. So honestly you might get a ping of 150ms to the website or the url to redirect you to the realm server, but once you have authenticated against the loginserver, you are then redirected to the realmserver. So honestly yes you get 150ms lets say the box is in france, the server hosted in denmark or germany, +3 hops if u lucky, boom 300ms +-

I'm using Wimax and i have been using it for over a year now. I have 0 issues.

I play on a stready 500ms with an unshaped account and my line is reliable regardless of the weather.

I live in Pta and I connect to the Midrand Tower.
