Tried WoW a few years ago but I just couldn't get into it, so I didn't last much longer than the free first month.

Started all over again, and this time I'm hooked proper. I'm playing on EU-Magtheridon as a Horde Pandaren mage. Currently on level 22 so the noobiness is still strong.

I think what's made it stick this time is that now I'm chatting a lot more with (high level) chars in-game when I have issues. Most are only too eager to help noobs - one even gave me a thousand gold. Must have felt really sorry for me :D.

Sleep suffered greatly though due to me wanting to reach level 20 ASAP. I now have my first mount. It's a flying mount but no flying for me until level 60. I foresee more sleep depravity in my immediate future.

So, do you remember when the bug first bit you?

I played private servers with a group of mates for a couple of years, as we couldnt afford the game. Everything was pretty broken, but the PVP was (and still is) at a much higher level than official WoW servers. It was the PVP, and doing Naxxramus that got me hooked.

I play on Quel'thalas now and have a 90 priest. I still enjoy PVP more, as raiding demands quite a lot more time.

Wow i can remember playing on the private server we had at varsity for till about lvl 24, then my buddy said i could have a look on his official account if i want to see something fun - never looked back since. Playing Alliance on EU-Terenas with about 6 lvl 90 toons.

Well it has been very long ago when I got hooked (played in the closed alpha test). But to be honest the game sometimes looses it's grip on you and then the social aspects of it pulls you back. The more people you meet the more friends you make, the more hooked you will become.
Hope you enjoy the game, but don't forget to keep a balance, rather limit yourself a bit before you burn out ;)

Yep, i remember playing on the private servers back when wow was just launched. Loved it, got hooked... eventually my mate tuned me "ya come try out the official server". Once i did that i lost a lot of my life, granted i had some insane fun, made lekker friends had lekker laughs...

Now, it hits me every once in a while, but when i realise that i will just end up flying around orgrimmar cause there's nothing else to do... it makes me happy that i havn't paid another set of subs :p Guild wars 2 is taking over my time now :D

I've been thinking of going Guild Wars 2, but I don't think I'll have time. Already playing Diablo 3, Starcraft 2 and WoW (although WoW has pretty much made sure that the first two are now ignored). What makes Guild Wars 2 more interesting for you?

More interesting for a few reasons
-- Something new and different
-- its not WoW
-- No monthly subs

The game itself:
-- Questing is much more fluid
-- Exploring actually means something (view points, skill challenges for extra skill points etc).
-- Travelling around the world is much easier
-- Random in-game events that happen all the time which are radical.
-- Graphics are pretty
-- Combat is nothing like Wows. There is no set rotation, you dont just stand and push buttons until the thing dies, you have to dodge and use the right skills at the right time.

And i've only reached lvl 20 in GW2 so i havn't touched the tip of what it has to offer.
Dont get me wrong, WoW is a great game with everything it offers, but there is nothing new for me to want to go back. The expansions just dont have any game changers.. except maybe pandas...

I was hooked when I first heard about the game. When I actually got to play it I was completely enthralled by it. The only reason I am not a junkie is because my friends hate the game.

I did spend like 25-30+ hours per week in WoW in 2007 - 2008 when TBC was in full swing. Had the privilige of raiding in an EU guild clearing everything from Karazhan to wiping on Illidan. Learned all the tactics of every encounter. Everybody in the guild had to study the fight on bosskillers.com. Good times.

When that guild broke up, nothing kept me in the game anymore. I'm still drawn to it quite often, but it doesn't last.

Same, when my last EU guild broke up...I was like what now...just stopped playing. The guild members and friends in that guild, kept me playing. Ohwell. Times do change.

Tinuva!

But ye that first few weeks / months was awesome. That 1st time venturing into 'enemy' territory and getting raped by a high level guy on a mount was scary.
Then a bunch of years of hardcore raiding followed. No bosskillers.com or such sites to go look at really as there was no guides or videos to look at. You had to figure it out and compete for server & world ranks.
WOW can surely take over your life like no other game if you want to play it to it's full potential, and that's the problem for me :)

Been retired for about a year and a half now, but I still rate it as one of the best, if not the best game I've had the pleasure to play.
Have considered going back and play casually, but I know it never stays casual.

Not sure when you started playing, but I'm relatively sure bosskillers.com had guides for even some of the vanilla bosses. It definitely had guides for every single BC boss.

Yup sure been a long time since we played WoW :)

Some of us started playing WoW when it was public beta, with even a few less having the privilege of playing the closer beta.

Do you remember the times Taurens didn't have mounts? They had some swifting ability to move at mounted speed. I was playing alliance at the time so wasn't 100% familiar with it.

I can assure you, in the days of vanilla, there weren't a boss killers around initially, it only came much later, probably when BWL got released or later.

Guides are made when top guilds are working on the bosses to kill them (even on PTR) or when they have been killed by top guilds and videos are released.
I'm not talking about some abilities listed, but guides.

That is the situation you are in when you fighting for server and a good world rank. You see, experience, notice and form a strategy as you go along and that is how the guides then gets made.

It is quite different doing fights like that instead of being able to watch a video and follow a guide where it is just down to executing the things it tells you correctly - ie knowing there is going to be fire @ that point and time in the fight even the 1st time you are there and getting the 24 ppl around you to just not stand in it :p

That is what I meant when I said "no bosskillers.com or such sites to go look at" because at that point there are no guides on those sites for that fights.

Still playing casual WOW and been realm hopping to find a stable guild. Most guild go strong for about 1-3 months the die out for some reason, SA guilds. The more stable once are EU guys, but raid times are a bit late and taking to long.

LFR keeps you going only for awhile then you miss the guild chats (TS3) and the jokes.

Wish there was a good SA guild somewhere, currently on Frostmane in some random lvl 25 guild. If this month runs out of air time I will hang-up my hat as well

It's true...it's hard to find a guild with people you like. When my first awesome guild broke up, I was just about to quit, but found a new guild I like :)

The people you play with makes a huge difference.

Awesome that you found one just before you quit.
Where you play now and which guild?

I didn't like the nobs on WoW, and I'm not talking about noobs, and it got repetitive too quickly, no mysteries of discovery in the character experience system either... much prefer Eve Online, at least the nobs there are in line with the game storyline...
