Of late my latency has been up and down ( I assume from the cable break etc). However, for the last 4 days or so its been above normal. I used to be getting 320 - 450ms. Now im getting 580 - 650ms. Is anyone else still having issues? Or am I alone?

Still having high latency on Cybersmart, but using my own VPS with a WebAfrica account I am down to around 198ms-207ms at good times when idle or 5man HCs, and at worst 280-320ms while raiding 25man.

Also had unplayable latency the last 3/4 days using vodacom 3g. Normally it was in the region of 600ms, now jumping to almost 8k latency at times. Seems to be much today so far. /touch wood

Its due to the Sat-3 cable restoration after it broke.

They still busy and who knows how long, im pissed off as well :)

Actually half of SAT3 is down currently. So most isps are not using it for now, except a few like WA, but if the last part of SAT3 break those ISPs will have 0% int bw

Same here, pings have been very high lately. must be the cable break.

The sat-3 cable has been resolved if you where having latency it is something else, as my latency has been perfectly fine since last week, even when they did do restoration i was not having any.

I've also been having high latencies lately, both on ADSL and 3G. At first I thought it might be because I moved servers, but on my old server I am still getting high (but no as high as the new one) latencies.

My old server is Blade's Edge (Paris-2) while the new server is Tarren Mill (Stockholme). I did some speedtests last night and there is a definite difference between the two. To Paris I get about 3.4 Mbit/s although it dropped to 2.7 sometimes, but it was always stable. To Stockholme I got 0.6 Mbit/s and about 1.2 Mbit/s at 12pm. The problem was that it was jumping all over the meter when downloading.

If you try adsl could be a line issue you having or your isp has some weird routing going on. i recently just moved to a new server last night, with webafricas shaped account i get 200-260ms with the lowerping i get .. 180:D

Everything seems to be fine now, I'm not sure what caused the prolonged period of high ping. At one stage I had a ping if 23000, I should have taken a screenie.

Logged on this morning (Tarren Mill) and had 3k ms latency. The entire week I've been having major issues. usually I get 290ms, but I'm now lucky to go below 500ms. It's also being affected by heavy packet loss, causing latency to sky rocket.

SAT 3 = broken.

Something is still not completely right... I am usually rock solid around 180 / 190ms, but since the SAT3 issues, its permanently around 380 - 450 ms.

Same here. Usually 360ms or so while leveling. Now its always 550ms. My latency to paris was always 250ms average, now its always sitting on 410ms or so.

i am between 200 and 350 on my axxess unshaped this week so seems normal to me (using usual wow server) but one thing i noticed tracerting international is 3 and 4 hops are timing out which use to have two dns' before the cable break

WoW lately is affected every patch due to more people logging on for the new stuff, new arena season and whatnot. Should return to normal in about a week.

TIME: 5 Feb 2010 12:54:32 PM
ADDITIONAL: Please note that the power reconfiguration on SAT3 maintenance is taking place on Saturday 6 February 2010 (0:01 to 04:00 UTC).
Restorable traffic is not at risk and we will still experience the longer traffic path. Only after successful power reconfiguration, all restored traffic can then be normalized back to their normal routes on SAT-3 and the system is back to normal. Tentative normalization scheduled for Sunday
7 February if power has been restored to normal configuration and no shunt is detected. No downtime expected as all our links are on restoration.

POINTS OF IMPACT:
Gallo Manor - Johannesburg
Great Westerford - Cape Town
International

OPENING TIME: 20 Jan 2010 5:29:27 PM
CAUSE OF PROBLEM: Telkom Maintenance
SYMPTOMS EXPERIENCED: High Latency
SEVERITY: Critical
STATUS: Attending
ATTENDING: Telkom Engineers
ADDITIONAL: Please note that Telkom SA is conducting major maintenance on the shunt fault on Segment 14 of SAT-3, about 627 km from the ACC Beach Manhole. This maintenance will run from the 20-22 January 2010 and resume again on the 29 January to 01 February 2010 within the maintenance window
(00:01 to 04:00 UCT). Due to this maintenance, there will be intermittent high latency to London UK and Paris for the duration of this maintenance.
The latter will take place during and after the maintenance window.

SAT 3 isn't fixed yet. The "tentative" time for it to be fixed will be Sunday the 7th. sigh, nothing like healing progress raids with **** latency...

Thanks for the update Nitro...
Noticed the latency issues too since the cable break. I've been using Axxess626, GConnect and TelkomISP switching between them to try and get my latency down. Usually have 1 or 2/3 that are working fine.
The servers being overpopulated at this stage don't help either and like bradrap said more people logging to see the new content :p
