I myself am an old WoW player, if you played WoW during Cataclysm then you experienced the worst of WoW that was the worst expansion ever in the WoW timeline. I played MOP just a little bit hitting level 90, didn't do any professions nor dungeons. But I have heard a lot of good about MOP, a lot of my guildies enjoy it. The amount of content available for you is really fun. A lot of new none progressive content that are just fun and don't really effect your progress. But no matter what game no matter how much content they have once you done it, it becomes a grind of repeating the same thing over and over again. I've never played GW2 but I believe a similar thing occurs there as well.
None of these 2 games can guarantee the satisfaction to the whole community, it all comes down to what sort of content oneself enjoys more to allow constant satisfaction while repeating the same thing over and over. WoW it would be the progressive raiding or arena pvp, and GW2 similarly PVE with the WvW and dynamic event. Achievements were introduced to add onto the repeating grinds to make it slightly more interesting.
So the best way to decide, is to find the game with the class/role and combat style or gameplay you would enjoy over and over again constantly. Or get yourself an excellent guild with tons of friends and have new own creative custom contents with your guild. It is an online game so the fun comes more from the community then the game itself. I ran a guild myself and it was fun being able to do activities with close friends / guildies just run around and having a laugh on voice servers. Had some really funny europeans that did silly things in game to my gf (got her character killed), they like picking on her since shes the guild leaders gf
I myself did a research like this since I am deciding what MMO can I add to my playlist. With the current situation and environment I would suggest GW2 over WOW. due to it being once off payment, the majority of our ZA gaming community will be playing GW2 so therefore you have a higher chance of getting that fun community that has similar understandings (all from ZA) Unless you can find a WOW realm that has tons of ZA gamers. or If you enjoy and don't mind grinding alone, and you are one of those who love to be the best in the game and don't mind boring repeating content, choose whichever that has a class you feel comfortable with.
My old guild is still running in WOW and my members kept asking me to return. but I am not really a fan of the subscription system budget is tight.
