hey guys,

Currently Im playing wow on a 384k line with webafrica unshaped. I am thinking of getting a 4mb line uncapped from mweb ( or telkom ) and would like to know if anybody is using this for wow and what latency I can expect? Also is capped better latency than an uncapped account?

Currently Im getting 200-300ms on webafrica unshaped with 384k line.
I live in Cape town btw. :)

Thanks for the help

Less dc's in 25man is exactly what i want ;)

I have heard some people mention that they get better latency with the capped accounts than with the uncapped, so Im still a bit in the dark about this. Also which ISP would you recommend or are all basically the same in terms of latency?

Pharun from CDG? Stick with WebAfrica for wow, esp since you're in CT. IS (Afrihost etc..) accounts add another 100ms or so I find. Uncapped Afrihost is too unstable, ask Blou. Can't really comment on Mweb uncapped though.

I am in CT on a WA Titan 50b account and 4mbit line on one of the older DSLAM ports that only support ADSL1 so no 10mbit for me. Also via a personal Linux Proxy in the UK.

This is a recent raiding screenshot I took which they nowadays ask for when you try to apply to new guilds. Yes I am still looking for one =/

That's right :D

Since I have 2 accounts I switch between atm (384k one at mweb uncapped and one at webafrica for wow) it works out to about the same amount I would spend on a 4mb line with mweb or telkom uncapped.
If latency with WoW isn't an issue I would rather be using the 4mb line for faster downloads and such.

@ Tinuva
That 196ms looks good and 50gb should be enough for my needs, I'll look into it, thanks. :)

You can't get the titan accounts anymore unfortunately :( Was a special that's been discontinued.

You can give mweb uncapped a bash then I 'spose, but you may find yourself needing to get some WA prepaid as backup. You don't need any of that unshaped stuff either, you get the same lat on their shaped.

I use my uncapped Afrihost account along with Battleping. Rock solid 250ms WoWing

Hi Pharun, I used to have my account with AXXESS. they were fantastic, unshaped at R20/Gb. and i got 450-550ms ping to Darkspear-EU.

But it got a bit expensive couse i was downloading about 50Gb/month. wich woirks out to R1000 just for data!

I then decided to go uncapped and i stumbled upon OpenWeb Uncapped Lite.
have a look here (http://www.openweb.co.za/index_uncapped.asp)
it is the Package: 4Mbps LITE Uncapped - Data Account Only
"Uncapped LITE, The account is UNSHAPED.
Why Lite?

If you are a gamer, and do not download 24 / 7, Lite offers you unshaped ADSL access, which allows you to enjoy the benefits of the internet without being slowed down. VOIP works Great. Don't get us wrong, P2P and torrents will be a breeze, until you enter the 20% bracket, upon which they will be drastically shaped."

I have done a average of 175Gb per month and I am getting 250-350ms pings in WoW!

and the package only costs R495 per month unshaped and uncapped ... i am really impressed.

To add to the debate. I'm in CT, running on a 10mb line, with a 4mb mweb uncapped/shaped account. In game I get 176ms. I do not use proxy's or VPN's or anything.

I do however recommend always having a backup account if you are raiding. No matter who your ISP of choice is. If it's mweb then get a webafrica prepaid, if it's webafrica then get some other ISP prepaid.
