A friend of mine is looking at getting WoW, but the only internet connection she has available to her is gprs through mtn. Will this be enough for her to play?
Apparently 400something .... uses a cable? not quite sure, was asked to try find out as it would be slightly expensive if she buys the game, pays a months subscription to find it doesnt work

No. I have been playing WoW over vodacom using 3G and the latency is ok. But when I played using only GPRS/EDGE the latency is around 1000-1200 at best. Don't.
I used to play on VC 3G and I had pings of between 600 - 1200ms. Pit was using MTN Edge at the time and was getting 350 - 500's if I remember correctly.
If it is her only option, maybe try get a pre-paid sim to test it out?
I currently play on Vodacom 3G. Once in a while, my modem loses the 3G signal and switches over to GPRS. The lag then becomes unbearable. So playing on just GPRS won't be fun. Even EDGE is too slow for Wow, although you can at least see that you are moving.
I would suggest you try with a pre-paid sim first off.
GPRS is perfect for playing PvE (Player vs Enviroment) Questing en so forth. The moment one gets more into the game you need a better latency esp. with PvP (Player vs Player).
Now when you buy the game you get 1 month game time all for about R 120.00. Playing that 30 days on GPRS would be more than enough. If you have edge atleast then you should be ok for a latency at about 600-800. I myself have been having some network issues due to the upgrade in my area now for a month or so where I get about 600ms on HSDPA with nice stable 400-450ms's at night.
But this all really depends on coverage. Best is to give it a try on pre-paid swap around between different providers and see what works best for you.
It would be advisable to have atleast edge but GPRS will work.
Get the GPRS modem thing, then try Playing WoW on Maythem's account using GPRS to see how it is before you buy the game. If the latency is good, go for it go for it. Buy the game.
