WoW Private Servers

it doesn't help to talk about this to non programmers about these kind of things- sheep just wont understand. :)

Well I don't disagree with you that there are checks to prevent .exe hacks. It is not easy for a "non programmer" like me, but what I do know is that for just about every game you can buy today, the .exe hack is released almost the same day as the game...

The simplicity of using a .exe hack is for me as easy as copy and paste the new .exe in the game directory. The more difficult programming is left for the people that know what they area doing. I mean if they can so easily reverse engineer the wow server, what is an .exe change to dial a different server now?

As far as im aware, Blizzard did take WoW-Scape to court in Texas, the case was thrown out because WoW-Scape was a total non profit project, and, ironically enough, a large portion of its 20k strong player base already have offical accounts.

It took me 3 months of trying different repacks cores and platforms ... eventually I found trinity on Linux to be the most stable and maintainable platform .. so worldofwarcraft.co.za (private test server) is launched.:)

Prepare for flame war.

can someone tell me,

why PURCHASE the game, and then play on a pirate server?

or is it only people who download the client via RS/P2P who play on pirate servers?

They copy it from their friends. WoW is legal to download and install on your PC without incurring the wrath of copyright laws, but the authentication happens when you try to log in and play the game (as most of their intellectual property exists within game)

So naturally people started writing their own emulation servers.

Only 10 months to reply. How is patch 2.2 treating you?

I dont think private servers are that bad to blizz. I mean if ppl that play on priv could actually afford legit then they would definitely pay for it and play. But they cant and thats why they play on the private servers. Also it gives many ppl a taste of how its like to raid and all. Althought its a vague experiance u still get an idea of how fun it is. Thus many ppl go once they can afford it and play official. Im one of those cases where i played private servers and enjoyed it so much that i got the legit game and started playing :D

The raiding enviroment is entirely different from official and illegal servers, if you raided on official servers before then you would have known that.

People are cheap by nature (kids and students more so). I had to work 4 different news paper routes just to afford my own internet... why can't you just do 1 and pay for your own WoW subscription?

Don't take it personally, the players here are just a bit over defensive ;)
And I agree with you, you cannot really stop it.

+10

They dont like people playing a game they have to pay for even though it doesnt effect their lives in any way. Personally, as a happily paying WOW player.. I dont care.

Theyre not ganna stop it. You should see how pirated it is in this part of the world! Its epic... Blizzard does not try shut them down here like they do where there are countries full of snitches.

Though with pirated servers, expect a crappier game experience, its well worth it to pay for it if you can afford it.. if you cant.. enjoy what you have :D

If they kept their advertising to their own forums and not in this section then fine. If we had a section called "Advertise your unofficial WoW servers here" or a forum dedicated to WoW unofficial servers, then sure.

But if we don't nip it in the bud they tend to think it's a FFA in here and advertise like mad. Sure, we pay for it but it's not that we don't like the other guy for not paying for it, we just know the content and experience is much too awesome to let them siphon off potential players that might leave the game because there's a total of 10 players online. ;)

These guys are the same guys who want bots for Counter Strike... CS is suppose to be a team / social game. If you're looking for a single player game, there's many on pirate bay you can download... if you're looking for a MMO, awesome, but be prepared to pay for it (or stick to DoTa) or even :gasp: get Guildwars (but then you have to pay for it... eish cant win!)

sure we pay to play so why come and advertise here to people that pay to play ? And offer us a sub par product than that we are use 2 ? If we ever wanna play for "free" we will come look you up if we ever need your kuk servers

how many people that use this forum actively are playing on private servers?

Well Blizzard can make the Realmlist FIXED, so it cannot be changed to connect to a different server. If WoW has to change it for some reason, they can just release a compulsory patch or something.

And yes in about 10 seconds after they do that there will be a few 1000 software cracks around it lol ....They will never win.... Microsoft lose Mil's every year cz there is always somone that will give out and write a crack....

Hell i bet 80% of you have some sort of illegal item, program on your own pc's...

pll make money and there is always someone bored .... LOL
