Heya guys

I have come to the point that iBurst's upstream issues is becoming a real threat to my guild. I am one of the main healers and we aint progressing if I get random downage.

I have looked into Screamer's WiMax/Wifi offerings at this stage.

My issue is the following: iBurst on 5GB/month vs Screamer 5GB/month

Prices:
iBurst: R599 (already have a modem)
Screamer: R668 (R570 + renting of R98) (According to support person, I am only in WiFi area, hense the WifI renting cost)

Now there is a very little difference between the two packages, but what I would like to know is the following:
If I stick with iBurst, will the connection handle Uld25m and ToC25m decently without dc's or major lag?
If it wont, I will have to switch to Screamer.

I have heard good responses from new Screamer subscribers with low latencies, but think they are mostly on the WiMax section.

Could ppl please post average ms they are experiencing with iBurst and Screamer (preferable if on Wifi).
I would like to compare the two before making a decision that might cost me R600 extra once off
(that is alot for me atm out of my normal budget for one month)

I am personally on a 3GB iBurst account at the moment and with raids and Vent, I normally am capped 2 1/2 weeks into the month, thats why I wana look at the 5GB package.
I am experiencing anything from 480ms-900ms latency, depending on where I am and if I am playing capped or uncapped.

Any statistics from people using iBurst or Screamer Wifi would be greatly appreciated.

The reason why im not thinking of getting ADSL is that just the setup cost of it is too high.
That is adsl router, telkom installation, adsl activation (think thats one).
If I remember correctly, the last time i calculated the setup cost it was about R1200 range.

Yeah I know ADSL does in theory have the best latency etc, but want to see what the cheaper (mayb better) options are.
 
damn did not know iburst was that bad,even my crap hsdpa get 350ms in 25 man raids. Adsl would be the best if don't want random lagg spikes
 
if you do self install its R400 less and when I got my adsl I got a free telkom special router so thats just R500 extra for the fists month. If prices are still the same as a couple of jears back
 
I am planning on doing the ADSL self-install if I was to take ADSL for some reason. But a technician still needs to come out to "connect" the link.
There is a Telkom line in this house and ADSL was used by the previous renters.
But according to Telkom, because it was disconnected, they have to send someone out to do that. Thats where the "installation" cost comes in
 
AFAIK they just need to reactive the line if the is not connected at all. Then activate adsl on the line, and then you do the self install. The only thing the technician may have to do is setup the adsl at the exchange (thats what I understood last time I spoke to them).

No one needs to come to your house for adsl. They pulled that trick with me when my line broke and wanted to charge the setup fee. I just yelled abit, said that I called them to *fix* the telephone line, not the adsl, so that I can continue with adsl setup myself.

The startup for adsl might be a tad higher than wireless, but saving R300 per month easy covers the effort. And the stability is much more satisfying compared to what you pay.
