After struggling with up and down 3G performance for a while now (and let me be the first to acknowledge that VC and V3G in particular have been trying really hard to fix this), I finally cracked and applied for ADSL. I have a business to run and I really need reliability.

I spoke to Telkom on Monday, the line was installed on Wednesday and I went live with an Axxess semi-shaped package earlier this evening. No special favours, no strings pulled. :D

Now I'm really glad I bought the Billion 3G/ADSL2 router a few months ago. It works well with 3G (USB Huawei E272) and now I have failover into the bargain.

Will benchmark this later (using 384). I'm not fussed if it doesn't deliver the raw throughput of HSDPA - it's the reliability and latency I'm concerned about.

Congrats. GREAT choice on going with the IS Semi-shaped product which offers superior international latency and speed compared to SAIX shaped :) Although, you may want to shop around because there are cheaper options out there for IS Semi-shaped.

Definitely won't match HSDPA speeds but should be comparable to 3G. I'd recommend http://www.speedtest.net
