but yeah, people in our SA alliance guild on Dentarg, EU have also been complaining about their 3000+ latencies. I havent had any such issues, might have something to do with the fact that I am playing on a 2GB unshaped imaginet account...

If u only play wow and download the occasional patch I can really recommend imaginet unshaped, cool 500 - 700ms ping allround, ironforge included ;)
 
I'm using Imaginet Shaped acount and also using Nukecap PayVPN and I get about the same pings. On a good day I get 300 - 400ms. But for the moment due to Telkoms "activities" (whatever they may be) I am getting really bad lag. I tested WOW at work and it seems fine there (they use unshaped). But have to wait and see what it's like when I get home.
 
I phoned Telkom today to cancel my 3 Gig shaped account and rather go for a unshaped package which i found to be much better suited for gaming.

The Telkom guy i spoke to said that they had had ALOT of phone calls today
with people that wanted to cancel there Telkom ISP packages due to the
crap speed over the last few days.
Even before i could tell him the reason for the cancel he said "Do you play
online games".
So mabye if enough people that play on-line games cancel there Telkom ISP
accounts and give this reason for it there is a small snowballs chance in hell
that someone at Telkom might notice....YEA i know i live in a dream world.:)
 
Hah! If anything, Telkom will make it worse just to shove more people onto their unshaped accounts, only to raise the prices for unshaped access later.

Ok back at home and using my Shaped account for WOW and it is basically unplayable. I'm using Imaginet. Perhaps any Telkom Shaped account users with different results?

Telkom shaped here. Unplayable also, lags horribly and then eventually disconnects me from the server... been going on for 4 days now.
 
Is anyone able to play using ADSL.

Telkom Unshaped gives me ingame 3500 and in IF I get 19500.
 
Sounds like proof that they are shaping the 'unshaped' connections. Perhaps someone can take them to the ASA about this?
 
There a bunch of us playing on the EU servers and we all had the reponse die on us over the weekend, we all changed over to unshaped and cured the problem.

As pointed out by someone else, we just wait for telkom to hike the unshaped price now.

PS - when i cancelled my Telkom account yesterday, they didnt even ask and by the time I got home my DSL was down. Email addresses cancelled the works, if i hadnt organised my Unshaped before hand, i would have been screwed. PS - I am running Axxess unshaped and others are using web africa all at around 300 - 600ms on the unshaped accounts

Well, if you paid for this month's access, that's blatant theft. I'd demand a refund if you had already paid.
 
I must say I have a 192K line and a 3 GB cap shaped account from telkom (that is down now) and I get between 300ms - 700ms. Even in peak hours. I play on the EU servers (Thunderhorn)

I just arrived back in SA from the UK for a one month holiday. Man the internet is damn poor.

Trying to play WoW on the EU server Executus has been nigh on impossible for the last few days. Tonight I got the Nukecap lowping solution and its basically the same. About a week ago it was playable at 400-500 latency, but currently there I get disconnected after about 5 mins.

Here is the setup:

ISP: Imaginet Unshaped 2gig
Modem: Telkom ADSL 5100 4 port Router
Speed: 384kbps
Proxy: Nukecap UnmeteredVPN
Firewall: Sygate Personal (have opened the ports and also fully allowed access to test)

Now I'm wondering if the modem might not have something to do with it. See this is my brothers PC and setup and he claims that resetting the modem makes WoW run better. This does work sometimes. So for the sake of comparison, could those who experience stable pings post their modem so we can see if there is some kind of connection.
