Writer that does not write

Have you run some diagnostics on the HD's (s.m.a.r.t and surface scan) and your Memory (memtest)? Also what AntiVirus are you using?

Memory is fine, i abused it the other day running file decryption, if it never failed during 15hours of 100% use its def not causing the writer issue, either that or the writer uses the sector at like 101% or beyond.

Hard drives been replaced, error started with old drive, if 2 totally different drives manufactured 7 years apart from 2 different manufacturers have the same fault, especially when the previous 1 had no fault other than lack of speed, which would of them been solved by this 1, its read speed is 60mb/sec faster than the old drive so, write speed is also faster, not sure by how much though.

Ya but seriously, it happens to be my work, gaming and entertainment pc, not really worth sending it to JNB for who know how long while asus tries to figure out why it does not burn DVD's

Not sure if you mentioned what components you have. But I would recommend sending that mobo back and using a cheap G31/G41 (Intel 775) replacement in the meantime. Asus are quite good with warranties, should be quicker than you expect!

Yes but i live in CT so either i pay 120 each way for a courier which takes 3 days each way or i send it to the suppliers who send it back, either way im looking at like 3 weeks between shipping and testing, not to mentions all the effort for swapping boards, as i mentioned before i care less about making the writer work and more about figuring out y it does not work, if i burn a disk a month its a lot, i have 4 flash drives and 2 external hard drives, the extent of my burning needs is windows.

I care about the mystery only, i have been trying to solve this for almost 6 months, i have contacted technicians, electrical engineers, suppliers, even Louis from PCF and no1 can give me a test that i have not already run yet

One thing that can mess PC's around is having different burning software installed dunno why but they can interfere with each other somehow.
Next thing, as mentioned here, is to try Linux and eliminate any possible Windows issue.

So much for Asus's 3 year warranty. :erm:

Killer lus to send it back I know. I really would consider it after you've tested with Linux though.
