If I have two of these routers can I place one at my side and the other at my friends house and form a network between the two of us. If so how would this work? Thanks.. I'm a little new at this.

Another thing is that we will probably need to hook up an antenna for each router so that both routers can communicate with each other. My friends house is about 800m from me.

Yup, you'd need some externally mounted antennas, other than that - it will simply work.

Perhaps mount the routers in an external enclosure on your roof and run POE to the box...

You would need to use something like WDS to implement the network side of things.

In terms of the hardware, with clear LOS you might get away with the stock antennas, otherwise a low power antenna (8dbi) should be fine.

++ on the external enclosures and POE

You are also going to want to install DD-WRT, this will allow you to "over clock" the router something insane.

You shouldnt really need to do this under normal circumstances, but running dd-wrt will give you a lot more flexibility in terms of what the WRT54GL can do.
