I really don't understand what is going on with MTN since the 1st January 2014...

How could they have increased their pricing so drastically?

Before the 1st of January a MTN Anytime 100 package with a Samsung S4 mini included cost a reasonable R269. Sine the 1st this exact same package now costs R319. For R249 you will get this handset on the MTNChoice 50 package.

This is highest robbery and South Africans being as laid back as we are, we will accept this drastic increase without saying anything about it.

Is this because of the whole ICASA price cut debacle? I just can't seem to grasp what is going on here.....

You were looking in a store that's all yellow... Avoid those as well as the red ones... I recon the black and blue stores are your best bet. Cell C and TM have that mini at R269,00 on a straight up 100 or SmartPlan 100.

Oh, the ICASA thing should bring prices down... Boys in red and yellow are going to court to try stop that... Just saying.

Can you still get the Anytime contracts? I'm seeing it advertised on the MyChoice100 for R319 but this is not the same as the Anytime100.

MyChoice100 gives you 100mins, 100MB data and 100sms. Anytime100 only gives you 25 SMS and R100 value and at in bundle rates of R2.30 you're not getting much for that.

@greg0205... Lol at you. Guy if Cell C was an option I would gladly opt for them but their coverage sucks big time and I want a happy wife bud.

@Dubes... Honestly I don't know if the Anytime packages are still available but on the website it shied that the packages are still there. With that being said, the Anytime packages are more per call per minute with less monthly premiums. The MTNChoice packages are less per call per minute but so much more per month premium wise. So there is no actual saving looking at this now

Pity about the Cell C coverage - if they got that sorted there wouldn't be an MTN or Vodacom in SA.

That is so true.

I checked their packages and what you get within those packages, much more enticing than MTN or Vodacom. You get so much moreand especially where data is concerned.

... But yeah, till they sort out their coverage and Call Drop Rates, I'll have to pass on their amazing offerings.

You can still get the Anytime packages. Just ask for it in store.

It's not only their coverage - the quality (voice/sound quality) is crap as well. Even from CellC to CellC. At least with MTN/Vodacom the quality is fine-normal.

Thanx Chevron. Will be going to them in a few and will ask them for the Anytime package.

Thanx again

I'm not fully understanding your interest in the Anytime package.

Anytime100 @R269 includes 25 SMS and R100 value with in-bundle call rates of R2.30 which therefore equates to around 43 minutes call time. In-bundle data rates of R2.00 per MB.

OOB call rates R2.35 per minute. OOB data R2.00 per MB.

MyChoice100 @R319 includes 100 SMS, 100 mins and 100MB data.

OOB call rates R1.60 per minute. OOB data R1.00 per MB.

For an extra R50 you are getting far more minutes, far more SMS (useless anyway) and far more data, as well as far better OOB rates!

Because not everyone needs minutes, and some people don't need data. With the new packages you will get people that will have thousands of minutes that roll over because they never call.

At least with Anytime you can use that value for whatever you want. and it rolls over if not used. Roll over value is better than rollover minutes.

Dube thanx so much for that explanation.

I did not quite look at out that way because frankly I have a budget and this was before I knew the Anytime package was still available.

This package is more than enough for myself and the SO.

So yep we might be paying more per call but it's fine because for my budget if we had to opt for the Choice package we would get less for that amount of R260.

So then you go for the MyChoice50 offering @R249, and bolt on what you need.

R20 cheaper and it'll give you 100MB data, 50 SMS and 50 minutes.

The Anytime100 costs more and gives you the equivalent of 50MB data OR 43 minutes talk time. You get more of both with the MyChoice50.

But as you say, each to their own.

It really is daylight robbery! Although saying that I just upgraded my VOdacom account to a smart M package without a device. R189.- a month, 300 mb, 300sms, 120min call time anytime! So not a bad deal!

BUT Cell C were having even better deals, like twice as good! I just didnt go for that because I needed the upgrade now and didnt want to wait for my account to end.

I hear what Dubes is saying, and I might be thinking through my arse, but I just don't see how they can say it's cheaper if I'm paying R50 to R100 more because the call charges are cheaper. That is no bargain because they make up that loss via the monthly premiums that has been increased.

Thanx for setting out the way you did Dubes.

iFan.... Cell C offers great packages now it's just they have crappie reception and I don't have energy to fight with them every month when the SO nags on my head about dropped calls lol

Exactly! I forgot to mention that that was my other reason, the signal! :)

At first read I also thought so.

Then I searched the net for an old ad.

Anytime 100 was R100 air time
Mychoice 100 is 100 minutes airtime.

So the Anytime 100 is closer related to the MyChoice 50

Ok but maybe I'm being a cheapskate or maybe not understanding it.

The Anytime 100 is R100 cheaper/month than the MyChoice 100.
So do I pay more because I'm getting 100 minutes instead of R100 worth of airtime?
Is it a bargain or really a benefit to me then?
