WTF is Telkom doing now?

A VOIP service is much better than anything Telkom can offer

Cheap - out telco costs reduced from R1400 a month to R150 - that is a huge reduction
There is no monthly rental and no paperwork
Calls can be diverted easily
Its easy to block numbers
I can log in at home and use the same number at no extra charge
Overseas calls are a fraction of the cost of Telkom
Two calls can be made at once with the same handset

For 3 years, Telkom were adding "Supplementary services" amounting to R330 a month. I could never find out what this was for. I short-paid the R330 for the past 2 years and the amount kept accumulating

The phone and DSL stopped on 28th Jan. The bill for Feb to May charged R440 for rental, R900 for Fast DSL even though it was non-existant. The total owed on the last invoice is R 13400 which won't be paid. No-one has queried why this has not been paid

Two doors away is a Clock and Watch repair shop. His service also stopped on 28th Jan yet he received an invoice dated 19th August for future line rental. Telkom maintain he has service and won't be persuaded otherwise. On querying it with Telkom billing, they told him he would be blacklisted if he did not pay in full. They won't listen to his story and just cut the call when he complains

Quite disgusting really, they resort to blackmail to make you pay the bill
 
I have to say, I am also quite peeved.

We have no fibre cover in my street, LTE is non existent due to 2 towers not functioning correctly (telkon admitted this in October 2019 and have still not rectified it) and long range wifi is pretty much useless with most service providers refusing cover due to the spotty connection.

Which VOIP service provider do you use or recommend. A friends bussiness just had to jump ship due to Telkom cutoff. They now singed up with Rain uncapped LTE Internet. Any advise will be appreciated.

My Freshphone 087- number was ported to my Telkom number in 3 weeks, this back in February. 5 other people also started to use Freshphone but 3 of them have had their porting declined by Telkom

Telkom simply ignored the request and 2 months later said it was out of date. By that time the line had been disconnected so they refused on the grounds that there must be a working Telkom service in place

A typical lazy bureaucratic excuse. You cannot win dealing with idiots like this
