WTF is wrong with Firefox eating up memory!?

Opera? I have 5 tabs open and it uses 56mb now out of 512.

but the thing is that as than increases, Opera uses almost nothing extra whereas FF will often get to 100mb+. Ive seen lots of reviews on this thing, opera obviously doesit better than FF, they were the first to invent tabbed browsing.

About IE being load into the system already. that is why it alwasy starts up so quick, it is a pretty nice feature. No other browser can start as fast as IE... too bad. But then again no other browser can be as bad as IE, no problem.
Okay saying that, IE7 beta 3 looks pretty nice and it is fast and alot better than IE 6.

LMAO! Nice one!
Opera used to be my old-time favourite but with the fast pace development of Firefox, i decided to make the move. I would not mind reverting to Opera (it currently is installed on my system, version 9).

 N7.1 (version upgrade)

1. Open Firefox and go to the Address Bar. Type in about:config and then press Enter.
2. Right Click in the page and select New -> Boolean.
3. In the box that pops up enter config.trim_on_minimize. Press Enter.
4. Now select True and then press Enter.
5. Restart Firefox.

Now when you click the minimize button, Firefox should instantly reduce to just under 10 megs. When you restore the window again, it will be considerably less than before. It works pretty well.
Calico182, you've been officially awarded as our "Hero of the Day"! One of the few things that's been bothering me about FF.

Apparently Firefox version 3 will resolve the memory leak problems. But still too damn far.... I think the code is becoming "bloatware" and too complex for our open source guys at Mozilla...

Thats because its based on IE so its loaded into the operating system, nothing can beat it.

Doesnt make it a very good browser though...

My browser isnt based on the worst browser in the world, beat that? lol

FF 3 does look nice. I was using the alpha, but a bit too buggy, crashes alot and renders worse than Opera often. Oh yes the main reason was most of the exstensions not working. Even in 2.0 beta 2 Fasterfox asnd adblock dont even work.

crashes...system lockup...
all went away when I disabled it. I don't think it is very well coded...

I dont think that's my problem but thanks for the tip.. Will uninstall it.

I've been using Maxthon for about a year and a half now and I've never had any problems... The bet thing about it is the way it blocks ads and popups. For example: when I go to www.webmail.co.za, I don't get even 1 ad.:p

Its fast, stable enough for me to have 10+ tabs open and it saves the tabs that was open before I closed it.

Needs work, I suppose, but it works just great as it is.

I just checked that page, no ads or popups either on Opera. It looks very empty though. With Opera (and some effort) you can even make the spaces left by removed ads go away. Can make sites you view alot look nicer and completley ad free.

Probably nothing wrong with Maxathon, but it just doesnt seem to have the features of other browsers, and its build on IE6! But atleast al websites will work well..

One thing i hate about opera:

When you select text in a table (select the whole table), file > print > selection > print...
It loses the table structure...

Is it just me or is it opera?

The new Maxthon uses IE7, but it hasn't been released yet, but you can download the preview and test it from here.

I'm using the Maxthon 2 now...works just as great! No bugs so far;)

This trick doesn't really work btw from what i can make out. what it seems to do is reduce the process used memory BUT it does not free it up, so it kinda still freeze that amount of memory. so firefox under process view shows its using 3MB but when you close the program you will see the original 20 or 50MB it was being cleared. not sure if its not makring it for clear or whether its simply windows xp not clearing memory. anyways I'm putting mine back, i prefer seeing how much is really being used.

Using Maxthon as well, with 11 tabs open, only taking up 22MB of memory :)
