With regards to the articles in Eskom and petrol prices all I an say is wtf!!!
It's an incontrovertible fact that since the advent of our new democracy the ordinary person can bitch and moan through every orifice in his/her anatomy nothing will change

We are at the mercy of the corrupt politicians.

Until and unless we can rid ourselves if this scourge we are doomed. No amount of logic and facts will determine them from raping our government coffers further in this 1 party state.

We need a radical change to our voting system si that we are not confined to voting simply for a political party but for the person/s that is best for you job....

Until then we are doomed and cursed with what we have at present....
just saying

People will happily spend 7k a month on a car. Rather get a smaller car and get your own electric power. When you have your own power, you dont actually dont notice when there is loadshedding and SA becomes a much better place to live in.

No, the abyss has no bottom.

Loadshedding isn’t even one of the worst things about SA.

I guess Im lucky, I chose a safe community to live in, and we have no crime where I live. So life for me is work, beaches, braais and brandies with friends. I have absolutely no intention of moving from my little spot in the world. Im happy.

You are. Not many people have the luxury of choice of which community to live in.

Pretty much this. Since my Solar install last year; I can't care about LS or electricity prices anymore.

I will inform all the gogo's taking the taxi about this great news immediately

Fact checking that -

10KW panels + 8kw inverter + 25KW of batteries + installation will run about 250k zar.
That will take the average house off solar. If you use more than 20KW a day, then expect to add more storage, and bring that up another 100k for another 25KW of storage (for 50KWhr storage total, which should suffice for most people).

Lets call it 350K to be safe.

350K on a bond at the moment will add another 4k a month, and no load shedding.

250k on a smaller car - another 3k a month.

So yes, it does make sense!

About the price of a small car. Actually cheaper, cheapest car I could find online new was R149 000

Those mybb stories post costs were bullshit, and totally insufficient - 5kw of storage is not taking you offgrid.
I commented as such on the article in disqus, and in the subsequent thread. 250-350k on the other hand is more than sufficient.

The math works though - 7k a month for a car and fully offgrid with *actual* costs is completely viable.
