Someone explain this to me, On Takealot , they list these headphones as R200 more than the supplier they publicly list on there site, what is more annoying is the massive discount takealot shows as to entice.

Just ignore the discount or what they say the original price is. Check what they are charging and what other retailers are charging. If its cheaper then get it, if it isn't cheaper then get it somewhere else.

I also hate it when places inflate their initial price just so it looks like they are having a great special, but I've learned through the years, to do research before making a purchase.

Just a quick google search shows a varying price range for the same item. Why single one supplier out ???
This is the joys of a free economy. You can go and buy where you feel you are getting the best price and the internet makes comparing the prices very easy. I see the supplier site also shows a large discount so in fact you are not comparing apples with apples.

Check where your arrow is pointing - it seems one of them is pointing to the wrong product.
Anyway - we can't blame Takealot for this - the supplier is the one who is pricing the goods, all Takealot is doing is providing a safe platform for the company to sell their products through.

It's like the casino, sometimes the prices are lower, then a few hours later, they shoot up. Takealot is pretty infamous for that.
It just sucks because they are more flexible than other suppliers, bought a pair of Shure IEM's a few years back, supplier 1 was much cheaper with R300 delivery fees, takealot was roughly the same with free delivery, went with Takealot literally saved a little under R50

They are known for this.

But also is there a law that prevents them from charging whatever they want for a product?

+1
Simple and easy answer- you also save yourself the energy of getting all riled up about something that you really should be deciding with your wallet. It's that simple. Is it cheaper elsewhere? Then don't give them your money.

Yep, need to know your pricing before shopping on Takealot(of_stupid_people's_money) .. they often sell items on daily deals for more than what it cost on their site the previous day

No there is not, you can charge R300 000 for the item if you wanted to. Google law of sale, if you agree to the price you agreed to the price, whether 5 cents or 11000 cents, if the price increases after the initial agreement, the buyer has the right to cancel sale.

There is certain products that are protected by laws, maize, bread, petrol, electricity, water, precious metals ect has some form of regularity body, which keeps prices in check.

That said there is nothing stopping some one from selling their house from 300 000 more then market value because it has a unique feature, or selling an apple 1st gen ipod still sealed or 1910 apple computer for millions. It is about supply and demand.

I am with everyone with Takealot on their BS pricing, but in this case, it's the reseller who is at fault IMO.

These are sold by Station Vibration. I am sure they are the one setting the price as well as the BS discount.
