ok, so on Monday a guy from CGI( which is supposedly the official sales force behind Neotel) was over at the office showing off the wireless phone etc. So I get him to come check the signal at my house which is 100m up the road and turns out we get 2 bars signal in an area where I don't even get cellphone coverage. Anyways, then I phone Neotel and they tell me that I am not covered at all. Is there anything I could do about this??

I'm also not covered in my area (Cape Town) but I'm being patient and I'm waiting.

Every now and again, I call Neotel and I check up on it... this sorta (hopefully) reminds them that there is a subscriber waiting to join!

ok but we checked with that phone and I actually do have coverage?

While you may have coverage it's not to say that you'd get internet connectivity. You might be bale to make/receive calls and such, but getting connected to the net might have issues.

Ask the CGI guy if you can install the device to check for net connectivity. If you have no problems phone up Neotel.

mmmmmm, guess we'll have to wait for some kind of expansion.... come on neotel.....

It's just a shame we have to wait so long, but at least when they say they do have coverage, they will support you. I think I prefer the latter.

I'm guessing they can't predict the coverage accurately...so they rather take the cautious approach and only say there is coverage if they are 100% certain.

Connect the phone to a Smoothwall box at your office then get Captain WiFi to lay a 100m fibre under the road to your house. Problem solved

Telkom, as much as everyone dislikes them they are still miles ahead. It may take longer at Telkom to get things done but atleast it works when it is done. Neotel just a total waste of time. Been involved with them for over 2 years. Services more often are off than on and they are up to 3 times more expensive than Telkom. Read the fine print very carefully or your will pay dearly.

Or a WAP on purple connecting to another WAP at home without having to involve the good captain at all? :D

I would not recommend you sign-up for Neotel even if you covered by 2 bars, your download speeds could be 10 kbs or less. I was in an area of 1 Bar, could only download at like 8 KB/s
