Those are juvenile and stupid comments from saint. It's called being a grown up and acting as one. PTAWUG might not be a professional paid for service, but we do still strive to render a service to the best of our unpaid for abilities. But when people start randomly making accusations without some kind of proof to backup those allegations, people are going to take offense. You say we must look at helping this guy just because he says he has a problem? If it is a technical issue, then fine, someone will help him, even if it turns out to be he forgot to plug in a cable or whatever.

But when said individual comes onto a public forum and starts making accusations about people and organisations being this or that, well, prove it before I believe it. I'm pretty sure that most legal systems work on the same principle, innocent until proven guilty? But you of course simply need someones' word for it to be so.

So, if one of your friends says that you owe him R10k, you just gonna pay? Or just maybe, you might ask him to prove that....

See, I believe that if the WUG was run so badly, would it really consist of over 600 people?

I am sure there are others that have had bad experiences, me included. Even yesterday the Highsite I connect to had an IP change and I wasn't informed before hand, which caused me to spend a lot of time troubleshooting my own equipment blah blah blah, but I sms'd the highsite owner and asked him have the IP's changed, he said yes and someone else on IRC game me my new IP block and I was A for Away.

I am a systems administrator for a living, and I know what hard work it is to maintain an infrastructure. I can assure who ever is reading this that to admin a network like the PTAWUG is no joke.

We should rather be more considerate towards one another and work as a community to make the project a bigger success than what it already is rather than try break down the people who built and maintains the infrastructure.

That being said, should this whole thread not serve as an indication that the channels / methods for complaints and issues are not working properly? Should we not consider putting other systems in place for people who's experience of the WUG is not a pleasant one to bring their grievances forward?

I agree, that maybe the systems in place aren't the most effective, but we need solutions then. What other means are there then for people to use? We have an IRC channel, we have an entire wiki for users to use. I think that the bigger problem lies in users who are very quick to complain about this or that, but don't offer any solutions or help with said solutions. People are too lazy to bother to do it. Or the other excuse is they don't know how. Well, just learn then. And yes, it is that simple. Figure out how IRC works, or learn how to create a Wiki page and go and paste a massive link on the main page so that it gets some attention, but still abide by the constitution. But the problem is, some people prefer to blame others to hide their own inadequacies. People look for excuses to not have to do anything.

So I ask, who is to blame then?

Good point. What about if we put in place a ticketing system. Something like RT to see if maybe it works better. The thing is users (if I could call them that) go onto IRC and expect to be helped immediately. This is not always the case. At least with a ticketing system all the admins can see all the issues, pick up trends, see comments added by other admins etc etc.

One thing we should watch for is that the WUG does not grow to such an extent that the admins can not help everyone. Does the WUG have enough admins?

Ok, create a page on the Wiki stating the workings of this process. State the pros and cons. Create a piece where people can ask questions. Make it happen. This is what we mean about people getting involved. There are plenty ways for users to contribute.

This is up to the users again. The admins can only do so much, you are correct. So, if new users don't contribute by learning, helping or something to help out, then users are going to suffer more and more and wait longer for help. That is not the admins' fault, that is only the fault of the users. I say again, GET INVOLVED!

Stop bitching and crying and make it happen. <---This is aimed at everyone! Admins, wuggers, users, bad apples, brilliant okes, noobs, CSS players, downloaders, EVERYONE!

Good to see you all working out solutions and finding a way to live in peaceful coexistance, mutual aid and voluntary cooperation, the very basis of an anarcho-libertarian society. :)

Old thread I found.

Been on the ptawug a while now. Yes it's a community effort, and everyone needs to work to make it better, awesome! However alot of the users (excluding protzkrog, he's been helpfull) are just on power trips, you cannot dare ask a question and you get flamed, or question why something get's done in such a way, you know have a good old fashion technical debate, nope, you get flamed, for the most part alot of the sysop / sysadmin guys are rude, and on a power trip. Wug got a couple of things to offer, gaming, streaming radio(tuks is cool), but let's face it for the most part it's the downloads. Personally, it's just less hassle to grab stuff from usenet, than to deal with the two torrent trackers, one being basically dead, and the other one being so mismanaged it's not even funny. Yes, community network, so the standard response will be if I am not happy, setup my own torrent tracker, sure, but with the attitude of most of the people on the wug, it's just not worth it for me. I am sure it's awesome for alot of people and it's got the potential to be a great tool to learn on.
