that is a cool technology, but we're talking about another parastatal here....i worked for one for 4 years, the "ek is die baas" mentality is in every single one of them. they won't want to offend their comrades on the telkom board so they won't be too competitive and make their brothers in arms look inefficient, counterproductive and imperialistic.
martin, have you had personal experience with them?

I always say - you get what you pay for. (Except in Telkom and Sentech's case, of course). So I would be very cautious if a company is offering a service so much cheaper than anyone else.

Nope, no personal experience but it's easy enough to draw a few conclusions. International bandwidth in this country is just way too expensive at the moment (thanks Telkom) for these guys to be selling 512k lines at R300 p/m. That's probably why no contention ratios are stated.

i'm sort of impatient. but seeing though they haven't replied as yet it appears i don't have any other option. iburst doesn't cover the area i stay in, so they're about as usefull as sentech is too me.

last time i check there is a region on all the maps in gauteng with a big label "former east rand now ekhuruleni"....maybe sentech and iburst did not get the same edition of the map.....no its not another country

some needed info

Hi all

As everyone wants answers on what we are planning, here it is.

Yes, we are a small company that started on 15/09/2000, trading as Compulearn, setting up networks, servers and ADSL servers for companies needing their own web- and email severs.

As soon as people started to learn about wireless networks we saw a market for this, but in fact we were not the only ones to see a market for this. Megawan, WISP, Wo and Gateway were the first to start.

We were the next ones in line. We looked around and found certain areas that were not covered by these companies, and we went in.

SAWireless has been running for only 4 months as part of Compulearn, but now has its own name.

SAWireless is growing very fast with people wanting to be connected up, and at the moment our web site is a joke because we have had no time to fix it up.

Thanks to all the comments we have received from you guys, keep them coming.

Yes, we have applied for our ICASA license, and we are gearing up for next year, for VOIP and Internet.

About the License fees:

The license fee will be 0,1% of the VANS license fee income.

The amount of R5 636.86 for the application fee is calculated in accordance with the Consumer Prize Index (CPI) up to 2001.

The Authority prefers electronic or bank transfers but if you can only pay by cheque, make it to ICASA.

We are working towards this and with your help we will get there.

We are looking to set up all over South Africa, as there is a market for VOIP and Internet at half the price.

As you know we are all stuck with Telkom to supply us our bandwidth, but not for long as we have found a link in Europe that will give us a 1meg like at the same price as a 64k line. Makes you think?

I also see that you are complaining about us not responding, I have sent out email until about 12 pm last night. The ones that I didn’t get around to, I will send off shortly.

Regards
joe

Thanks SS. I like the 1M/64K remark - giggle. And I love the fact that you're thinking of going Europe instead of USA.

I would wait and stick to Iburst. I believe Iburst is the next step to internet Technology in the country.
there strategy's are brilliant.

i mean for R100 a month i will take a 64k though these guys but firstly they no legal so how long they ganna last and secondly adsl suchs on its own, wonder how good it would be sharing a ADSL link between 10 people heh.

sihen did u map a special macro to throw the "I would wait and stick to Iburst. I believe Iburst is the next step to internet Technology in the country." sentence in everytime u make a post?

Im all for other alternatives. It doesnt matter who provides me with internet(except telkom) just so long as its available, comparitavely priced, and the speeds are good..................wait this is ZA...DOH.

RPM if ure looking how bout the wifi guys get their own section? would be nice to have all of it centralised. Plus we could have a place were john goes to rave and keep him out of the other places..hehe

i don't care where i get broadband from (as long as it ain't telscum), i'll give any company a go....cheapest first, cause all i see at the end of the month is the cost. but i'll first check the legality, i wouldn;t want to fork out a lot for "installation" and then a year down the line they ain't there and have to fork out some more with a new company for their "installation"

p.s. this installation fee sa companies charge is bollocks, they only do this so that we pay for their capital expenditure on equipment, their risk is reduced, if anyone of these new broadband companies out there are reading this here's an idea:

why don't you negate the "installation fee" and offer a kick @ss service so that we won't want to leave and keep giving you money.
